WARWICK, R.I., Aug. 31, 2017 — As Texas continues to battle the floodwaters of Hurricane Harvey; forecasters predict the rain will carry on as the remnants of this storm travel through the gulf coast. Licensed travel insurance agents at InsureMyTrip experienced a 10% increase in call volume from travelers seeking answers on hurricanes and travel.

“While we all search for ways to help Houston and the surrounding communities, thousands of flights are grounded, and cruise ships rerouted. Concerned travelers, both in Texas and not, are turning to InsureMyTrip for guidance on their current and future travel plans,” says InsureMyTrip CEO Jim Grace.

According to InsureMyTrip, travelers are seeking guidance on planned trips set to occur during the remainder of the 2017 hurricane season.

The most common themes being explored by InsureMyTrip customers in the wake of Harvey include:

  • Evacuation
  • Hurricane Coverage
  • Trip Cancellation
  • Financial Default

Travelers are wondering, “If this had happened to me, what would I have done?”

Travelers should know, to have the most options available in a time of concern, they must purchase travel insurance early. Once a storm starts forming, it is deemed a foreseeable event, and insurance coverage will no longer be available to cover losses related to that named storm. On top of that, there are only a few plans on the market that offer coverage for a NOAA-issued hurricane warning.

Hurricane season officially runs June 1 through November 30.
