AIG Travel Travel Guard Gold

The AIG Travel Travel Guard Gold plan offers mid-level coverage and more options than the Travel Guard Basic and Travel Guard Silver. This plan offers you, as the traveler, several options to customize your comprehensive travel insurance plan to best fit your travel needs.

This plan offers excellent comprehensive benefits such as trip cancellation, trip interruption, baggage protection and travel delay. You can find these benefits in the other plans from AIG Travel, but this plan comes with some added benefits.

With this plan, the trip cancellation reasons also include work reasons. This means that if you have a work reason to cancel your trip you may be eligible for reimbursements due to this reason. You can find the whole list in the full certificate of the plan.

Travel Guard’s Cancel for Any Reason coverage is an option, which can be added to your plan. It allows you to cancel your trip for something other than a covered reason up to 48 hours prior to your scheduled departure. You must purchase the plan within 15 days of your initial trip payment, and meet all requirements to be eligible for this coverage. Reimbursement is up to 50% of your insured non-refundable trip cost.

Other time-sensitive benefits include the pre-existing conditions waiver, which is available if the plan is purchased within 15 days of your initial trip payment and all eligibility requirements are met, and the accidental death flight only benefit.

Had to make a last minute claim in March 2020, not for COVID, but the flu. Because of COVID it took 5 months to resolve, and they requested information on items I wasn't requesting reimbursement on, multiple times, but eventually payed the claim. Impossible to call and not have a >30 minute wait, and no responses to email. Hopefully that was due to COVID, I hope not to have to find out again.

We had to cancel our trip on March 2nd due to illness. This was at the beginning of the Covid 19 pandemic. It took a few weeks longer than usual for the claim to start being processed (which was very understandable). But once the agent opened the case, the process took about a week to complete. Then once fully approved, we received a check for the full amount of insurance claim in 3 days. Outstanding service!

We filed a claim after our infant daughter became ill on the eve of travel and we had to cancel the trip. AIG covered our claim, which was for non refundable lodging and the airline cancellation fee. Overall I was satisfied with the experience. My only complaints were that it took 2.5 months for the claim to be processed- I’m guessing part of this delay was due to the COVID pandemic, though. The other issue was that I did not receive any communication about the claim until I received a check in the mail. I did periodically check their website, but it would have been nice to get an email once the claim was approved. Overall, though, it was a fine experience and I would use it again.
