As I had done previously in occasions prior to taking a cruise, I took out a travel insurance policy with CSA Travel Protection, Generali US Branch, New York. Up to now we never had the need to use the insurance coverage in any of our cruises, thanks be to God! Unfortunately, just days prior to our cruise, our son suddenly and unexpectedly became gravely ill and had to be rushed to a local medical center. Sadly, he passed away 3 days later. This took place in early November 2017. Immediately I notified the cruise agency and the insurance company, CSA. I filled out all the paper work they required and submitted it via Certified Mail. It took them a month to assign an agent to our case. Once an agent was assigned and following a number of communications, e-mail and verbal, the agent kept requiring more and more information, even information that had been previously submitted. There was always an excuse, such as "We have requested additional information from your travel supplier or agent" and "We must obtain additional medical information beyond what was provided with this claim", and others. This was as recently as March 18. My wife and I then decided to take matters into own hands and took the initiative to go to the Medical Center and get the information they claimed that they were waiting for, and got it quickly and without any problem. We mailed it to the agent via Certified Mail (as we had done earlier). Finally around April 6, almost 5 months later, the agent called to let us know that we would be receiving the insurance payment, which we finally did receive.
In summary, dealing with CSA Claims was very frustrating. This was as clear-cut, straight-forward and as an uncomplicated claim as possible, yet they kept delaying the claim and showed very little compassion and care for what we were going through, which added to our pains and sorrow during a most difficult time for us. I feel that if it hadn't been because we took the initiative to do the leg work and stay on their back, more than likely a few more months would have passed without resolution to our case. If there is good news, it's that they finally paid the claim. In contrast, I must say that the cruise agent and the cruise line were most helpful, accommodating and compassionate in servicing our needs.
Lastly, I fail to understand why folks give and insurance company a 5-STAR rating when they had no need to file a claim! Those reviews are totally useless!

We are very, very sorry to hear of the death of your son. That would have been a difficult time for you even if the claim process had gone smoothly, but it is good to know that Generali did pay the claim.

One of the benefits of purchasing your policy through InsureMyTrip is our promise of "Unparalleled Customer Service". Sometimes, a claim is denied by the travel insurance company or your claim may take an unusually long time. When this happens, InsureMyTrip customers have the option to have their claim reviewed by one of our Anytime Advocates® who will support you with the process.

Once again, we would like to express our sympathies and encourage you to call Customer Care at 800-487-4722 in the future for assistance in quoting, purchasing or claims. We are available weekdays from 7:00 AM to midnight ET and weekends from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM.

Thankfully, I didn't have to file a claim. But we were confident the policy was there if needed. We are very happy using Insuremytrip and recommend it often.

My only concern was the death in the family part. My grandmother passed in February and I did not go on my trip. I also was not eligible to make a claim. The trip was about 6 weeks after, but there was so much to do (I was her live-in caregiver) that by the time the paperwork was done and arrangements made, I finally had time to grieve and be there for my father (his mother). The only thing that saved me my money was the company the cruise was chartered through. They didn’t refund of course (no refunds for ANY reason) but they did apply my funds to next year’s trip. It would nice if you could look into the death in the family part and amend it, since grieving is a process and a time limit or relation stipulation is hard to decide on who matters most to you in your life.
That being said, your company was very nice and the plan was great, I will be purchasing again for my next vacation. Thank you.

I didn't end up having to use this plan but felt like the process was easy and the price was reasonable for the coverage.

Nationwide Mutual Insurance Essential
The only reason I chose the Nationwide comprehensive plan is that life insurance was not mandatory, which would have added 20 percent to the cost. I DID NOT file a claim, so I can't assess how Nationwide would have handled a claim. Insurance is necessary, to protect against possible loss/expenses. I have homeowner insurance. The last claim I filed was for 1992's Hurricane Andrew in Miami. No problem then, but in September 2017, Hurricane Irma in Central Florida damaged the roof shingles. The shingles were not ripped off and the insurance company denied the claim, although the company paid to have sections of the wet, moldy ceiling removed. I still don't have a water-tight roof or repaired ceiling, and have filed suit against the insurance company.

That tangent has a purpose. I renewed an insurance policy filing no claims for 25 years. If I file a future claim for travel insurance losses, will that be covered? I am grateful, however, that InsureMyTrip.com served as an advocate when I incurred expenses for trip interruption, using a different insurance company policy. One email from IMT to the company had the claim paid within ten days. So yeah, travel insurance purchased through IMT is essential, and I advise not to purchase coverage directly from the insurance company. The cost is the same, and you have one to advocate for you. Thank you, IMT!

Nationwide Mutual Insurance Essential
I really can't give a good review since (thankfully) I didn't need to use it. But I will say that it gave me peace of mind for a reasonable cost. Using a company with a name I was familiar with also gave me the confidence that, had I needed to use it, I assume it would have paid as expected.

Nationwide Mutual Insurance Choice Cruise
Fortunately, we didn't need to file a claim for the Nationwide plan we bought for this trip. For our trip last summer, we had to cancel an expensive cruise two weeks before we were to leave due to my health problems. Nationwide paid every penny of the claim I filed ( the entire cost of the cruise) within 3 weeks - no hassles or questions. And representatives were very helpful with forms and information to help me file my claim. So I'm a customer for life!

Insuremytrip was helpful as always in presenting and comparing trip insurance alternatives. I've recommended them to several friends who were very pleased to have so many options and easy to use info/comparisons/purchase. A great and helpful site!
