We need a cost effective plan that would help out with major expenses, i.e., transportation back to the states. This plan has worked well for us. Provides a feeling of confidence at significantly lower cost than plans provided by the Cruise company or travel agent. Though we have had no claims so cannot provide a review on payments.

Nationwide Mutual Insurance Essential
Thankfully didn't need to use the coverage. Provided coverage for what I was looking for at a reasonable price. Will use them again.

Nationwide Mutual Insurance Prime
Our trip went pretty smoothly - one flight was cancelled but the airline could re-book us without significant change to schedule, so the insurance was not used. I was very pleasantly surprised to get a reminder email about our plan shortly before we left - Nationwide was engaged and proactive about our purchase - that was awesome. Gives me confidence in their customer service.

AIG Travel Travel Guard Gold
I had to file a claim with AIG. Even though I disagree with their final decision, I do and will respect their rules and guidelines. Another plus is AIG actually calls and explain the final decision. I was expecting a paper letter a few months later and close my case. It was nice talking to a friendly person. Again, as much as I disagree with their decision with my claim, I'm buying another AIG Travel Guard plan for the next trip. Great customer service.

It's very hard to review since we had no need to use any aspect of the plan. While I feel it is a bit higher priced than is reasonable, it did provide exactly what I wanted and needed so it's a bit hard to complain. Enrolling was easy and the coverage was easy to understand.

The good news is that everything on the trip went off without a problem and neither of us became ill requiring that element of the coverage. The bad news is that I have no claims' experience to be able to fairly rate the quality (or lack thereof) of the company.

I will, however, use them again for my next trip.

AXA Assistance USA Gold
I purchased a plan from AXA Assistance to cover everything, cancel for any reason, terrorism, medical reasons, etc. I was unable to go on my trip due to medical reasons, so I filed a claim. I had my physician fill out their form, and I faxed in the paperwork immediately with all the other requested information. They sent me an email saying they received my fax and to wait 30 days before expecting a response. Really? I waited 30 days, called and spoke with a representative that was very contrite, and told me I would hear from someone soon. Another week went by, so I called back and was told again that someone would reach out to me. The next day I received an email from a claims adjuster that my medical form was not correct. The physician said I was unable to travel from the time of my clinic appointment to the present day, which was the case. So I had to call again and ask why that was not correct. Again, the representative was very polite. At this point I was very angry. I asked what I was supposed to have the physician state on the form? I was told that there can't be an open date. Several times on these calls I pointed out that I purchased a policy that covered "cancellation for any reason" so I didn't understand why this was taking so long as I had a valid reason. I accused them of dragging their feet so that they wouldn't have to pay the claim. Twice I had representatives ask me if I changing my claim filing under "cancellation for any reason." I was reluctant to start the process over as much time had already passed.
I sent in the correct form from my physician with a finite date, that ended when the tour ended. Apparently that is their policy, but no one informed me before. Why didn't the claims adjuster just state their policy? And why do they need a finite date for medical reasons? I faxed in the updated forms with a letter that stated I was going to notify the state insurance commission, as well as post negative reviews on every social media site I was able. I received a confirmation the next day via email that my claim was approved. They sent me a check, but it took at least two weeks.
I would NOT recommend this company. As I stated, I really felt as though I was given the run around so as to delay or avoid payment of my claim.

Global Alert! Preferred
I submitted the claim in September, 2017 and the final payment was just received. The claims department answers to my questions were vague, they did not return phone calls promptly or ever. At the end, they claimed that never received the copies of our original tickets. I did submit them with my original claim. If they did not receive something, they should have gotten in touch with me instead of sending me an e-mail confirmation of documents received. I will never deal with this company again.

On our cruise our baggage was delayed 5 days. Then coming home we missed our connection because the first flight was late. It was extremely stressful and having to keep up with the documentation added to that. But when we returned home I pulled up and carefully followed the instructions. It is a lot of work and very time consuming process. I have so far only completed the delayed baggage claim because our expenses were significant. I haven't filed the claim for the missed connection because the cost to us was around $100. I'm not sure it's worth my time to pursue. The claim process requires me contact the airline and request them write a letter explaining how and why the delay occurred. That is the most time consuming requirement among the others. I hope the claim for the delayed baggage is processed without difficulty. I will update the review if allowed. The cost of the insurance was $850 and our expenses were $2000. But the time and stress involved will require the claim process to go smoothly for it to be feasible for me to purchase insurance in the future.

The insurance did pay some amount, they disallowed some valid expenses and it just wasn't worth fighting them over it.

Bought the insurance in good faith including car rental coverage. Claim was denied even though completely legitimate documentation was provided.

Then my InsureMyTrip advocate intervened. They enabled more dialog with the insurance carrier and eventually the claim was processed fairly. Two thumbs up for InsureMyTrip.
