It is such a comfort knowing that if something were to happen, my travel money would be protected. My traveling companion recently had an episode with her heart and I was afraid that we might have t cancel our recent trip just a few days for our departure. Luckily her Drs. gave her a clean bill of health and the okay to travel but TravelSafe provided the sense of security that we both needed in case things were to have a different outcome.

Generali Global Assistance Standard
A last minute, complex trip was covered and, thankfully, we had no need to use it. But missed connections and mishaps along the way made it evident to me that trip insurance is necessary and sensible.

AIG Travel Travel Guard Silver
We did not have to file a claim on this trip
However we have used AIG in the past and they have provided the coverage I needed and paid my claim in a timely manner.

I will definitely use them in the future.

I had a near disaster experience with my trip being canceled by one of the sponsors. In the future, I would seriously look at the option for cancellation for any reason. Thankfully I was able to complete my trip with the tour guide and completed the trip without any adverse experiences.

    It is true that there are some situations that would require the additional coverage of Cancel For Any Reason. This is one situation that Trip Cancellation for a covered reason would not protect against.

    There are 3 conditions that must be met to purchase a Cancel For Any Reason Rider as follows: Purchase the policy within 10 - 21 days of First Trip Payment; Insure ALL prepaid and non-refundable travel expenses prior to departure; Trip arrangements must be canceled more than 48 -72 hours prior to the departure date. If you meet all 3 of these conditions, most of the policies will reimburse you 75% of your trip costs, unless otherwise noted.

TravelSafe Classic Plus
We canceled this trip. The policy was a "cancel for any reason" policy. I filed the requested paperwork immediately, and both the claim and documentation were straightforward and uncomplicated, consisting of only 2 receipts. TravelSafe stalled and delayed repeatedly; my claim was not even evaluated, much less paid, until after an InsureMyTrip rep intervened. InsureMy Trip was great; TravelSafe was not.

AXA Assistance USA Gold
We purchased AXA insurance for a European Trip that included a Baltic cruise. All went well until we returned to the States thru NYC. They had issues going on and were cancelling flights due to "congestion". Eventually our flight was cancelled. We immediately reported it to insurance 8/02 and was advised to get statement from Airline of reason for cancellation. The statement on our paperwork said a/c maintenance so the Airline was responsible for our room (or so we thought). A day and a half after we were to arrive home we did. We worked for 2.5 weeks to get airlines to pay portion and then submitted to insurance everything airline did not reimburse. Insurance did nothing until I called to check on status 2 weeks after submission. They sent us a letter asking for more documentation about hotel room and airport parking for the 1 extra day we submitted. We submitted again and 3 weeks later had not heard a thing. Contacted insurance again and was apologized to- it was put on hold. Finally received full payment requested 2 months after submitting. IF YOU BUY AND HAVE TO USE CALL FREQUENTLY AND STAY ON TOP OF THEM. Nothing was done until after each phone call and believe me they say call to check on status- it appeared they do not want you calling to check on status because nothing has been done until you call. Keep every receipt and document otherwise you will never get your refund, Frustrating experience if you have to use insurance.

You are correct in advising your fellow travelers to request and save all receipts which are necessary documents for reimbursement in a claim. It is also disappointing to hear that you were not contacted on a regular basis by the AXA claims department.
