We have used 'InsureMyTrip' for many years for our cruise travel insurance company and have been pleased. This year we had to cancel a cruise and filing a claim, "Trip Cancellation Claim ID 6336742", was a horrible experence! I only asked for a mere $596 refund! Trip Mate was handling the claim here in Kansas City, MO and I sent the necessary paperwork at the end of May. Time dragged on and on, and finally they indicated they transferred my claim to another 'agency' and lost all my documentation. I had to re-send paperwork two more times, talk to a respresentative several times, and it took until August to actually receive the insurance claim money! This whole insurance processing department appeared inexperienced and and inadpt at processing a claim. It is doubtful we will use your insurance company again!

TruTravel Insurance Premier
This is a review of Trutravel Insurance Company. My name is Steve. I don't write many reviews, but had to write this one. Don't pay attention to reviews from people who never filed a claim. This is about an actual claim.

About six months ago, I had a new laptop stolen from my hotel room in Eastern Europe. I notified Trutravel of the incident after I got home, expecting that they would find a loophole to delay and avoid paying the claim. Instead, I promptly received a courteous call from a very professional representative requesting documentation. She clearly explained what she needed; I then submitted the documentation, and was promptly reimbursed for the full value in about a month. I highly recommend this company and have already used them again.

I extend my appreciation to Insuremytrip.com for providing a way find the company, and especially to Trutravel for not jerking me around.

I learned during this trip's insurance purpose that these plans are less useful for the non-medical aspects of a trip. It became clear to me that these plans are targeted more to folks that pay all costs and have no option of receiving a refund ONLY as of the day prior to your trip's departure.

For example, on our most recent 23 day trip one of our B&Bs would not give refunds after we were only four days into our trip and most other B&Bs would not give refunds only a few days prior to our first night's stay. According the person we spoke to at Insuremytrip there were no CSA or other companys' policies that would cover that situation since it was still refundable as of the day we left for our trip. So if we would have had to return home suddenly after five days into our trip, we would have lost the money for the B&B that needed 3 weeks notice for a full refund. In addition if both of us on this policy would have been incapacitated and unable to cancel all the other B&Bs that had better refund policies (say 2 or 3 days before our stay at them), we would still have to pay those B&Bs.

SO BE FOREWARNED: CSA and other companies will NOT pay unless it was prepaid and non-refundable the day before leaving on your trip. Perhaps the chances of this happening are low but it makes it more difficult to determine the amount of insurance to purchase...I had to file an amendment several times as I further planned the B+Bs for our trip. The travel part of the insurance seems to cater to the fully up front funded vacation via a third party. Wouldn't they have formulas to determine that risk an just fully cover all costs if something should happen during the trip?

That said the medical part of the policy is worth it. We didn't use it during this trip but we had to during a previous trip and were very satisfied.

This is a good no-frills plan for older people who are especially concerned about medical evacuation costs, and in this respect is much better value than most of the plans offered by tour companies.

I was so pleasantly surprised! There was no hassle when Hurricane Harvey upset my travel plans and I had to file a claim. AIG will always be first on my list for travel insurance!
