We’re sorry to hear your trip was delayed and apologize for not meeting your expectations. We take customer service and the claims review process very seriously and cannot stress enough to our customers that it is important they review the coverage details of our plans via the sample Description of Coverage/Insurance Policy that’s provided at the time of purchase, and contact us at (800) 348-9505 or via email at [email protected] with any additional questions they may have. We also offer a free look back period with all of our plans to allow customers to cancel their policies within a designated period as long as they haven't already left on their trip or filed a claim. The plan you purchased can provide coverage for a variety of different expenses if your flight is delayed. Our Travel Delay coverage can provide reimbursement for certain out-of-pocket expenses you might incur while delayed for six hours or more, such as lodging, meals and local transportation. However, in order for our Trip Interruption coverage to provide reimbursement for unused, prepaid non-refundable expenses your flight delay must result from either adverse weather, mechanical breakdown of the aircraft, or an organized labor strike. Trip Interruption cannot typically provide reimbursement for airport security scares. If you have any additional questions or concerns, please reach out to us at the number or email provided above.

On 9/16/2016 I have arrived in Delhi airport, India only to find out that my luggage was not transferred from KLM to Jet Airlines in Amsterdam. After 3 hours of administrative hassle I finally opened the missing luggage claim with Jetair. My flight to Katmandu was departing next morning. An original plan was just to stay in the terminal and use the sleeping lounge. I had a single entry visa for India that I planned to utilize on the way back to stay in resort in Kerala. At about 2 a.m. completely exhausted, I opted to take a shower and catch on sleep in the Transit Hotel in International terminal 3. As this was a transit hotel technically I have not entered India.

Next morning I have connected to my flight to Katmandu. On the way back on September 26th I have proceeded to an airport to board 9:50 am flight from Katmandu to Delhi to connect to my final location in Kerala, TRV. I had non-refundable 4 days paid resort fee of 527 euro or $527.00

I was shocked to learn that my single entry visa was used up when Transit hotel took my passport for the registration and stamped it with airport authorities. Which I was not aware about. Since I had to apply for emergency visa to India, the earlies available departure was on October 1st, 2016. Just in time to connect to my flight back to US. This caused a trip interruption of 4 days, loss of the resort fee of $527.00 and unused Jet Air cancelled itinerary of about $450.00. I called AXA and advised them on the situation. The representative assured me that because of the unforeseen circumstance this will fall under the trip interruption. I am sure they retain the phone records. I have filed the claim with all supporting documentation and cover letter. The claim was denied because this particular circumstance is not listed under covered events. However it is also not specifically excluded. I bought the policy in a spirit that it will cover me in the UNFORESEEN events, which my situation clearly falls under. At this point I have open the case with the CA Department of Insurance and will proceed with the legal actions against this company unless my claim is reconsidered. I have travelled to 54 countries and always bought insurance coverage. I do not recommend this company

We thankfully did not need any of the features of the insurance plan, but the security of knowing if we had any issues with our flights, cruise or health, we had a resource to call on! Thanks for providing peace of mind.

I purchased this Insurance for peace of mind. We were traveling to Jordan and Egypt. Locations that sometimes get a bad rep. I purchased an option to cancel for no reason in case I got too nervous to go. That coverage only gives you back 50%. The other coverage I added was terrorist act coverage, in case some disturbance happens before we leave we are able to cancel our trip. The good news is that those countries were actually great places to go to and we felt absolutely safe.

During my trip I did have a bad fall. Old locations like Cairo have bad steps and I fell and hit my spine pretty bad in one of the mosques. I didn't go to the hospital while I was there. I was trying to downplay it. I iced for days and since I was in the last end of my trip I decided to wait till I got back to see a doctor. Now that I am back I want to get seen but the representative I spoke to said that I no longer have coverage, even though the injury happened during my trip. They won't cover any tests or a chiropractor visit. That's a big disappointment. For this reason I will give a low grade to this insurance.

Nationwide Mutual Insurance Essential
I had a frustrating situation with this plan. I had purchased a plan to cover my airfare and hotel for a vacation. The hotel stay I had purchased was in the form of a certificate I had bought in a charity auction. I was going to the Bahamas with my best friends, but I wound up getting ill and being unable to make the trip. The airlines refunded me my money no problem, as it was due to illness. No need to file a claim for airfare. And to not have to bother the travel insurance company with a large claim for the hotel stay certificate, I gave it to my friends to use and they paid me back for it. The only caveat was that they needed the hard copy of the certificate to be able to check in, which means I needed to FedEx it overnight to the Bahamas at a cost of $52. So I did not need to file a claim for the airfare or hotel portion of my trip.

HOWEVER - I did ask if I could file a claim for the $52 that it cost me to FedEx the certificate for use. The insurance company, though, refused to cover this cost when I called and asked about filing a claim, which is perplexing, and quite honestly, horrible customer service.

By my contacting the airline directly, as well as making sure the hotel certificate went used by my friends, I SAVED the insurance company money on having to reimburse me for a nearly $1,000 claim due to not being able to take my trip. Rather than saying "Hey, we should approve this measly $52 claim for our customer - who incurred this cost as a result of illness that prevented him from traveling," they're looking past the fact that I did not submit a claim for the larger stuff.

The company is being penny-wise and dollar foolish, and, like most insurance companies - looks for every tiny loophole in policy not to pay their customers what they deserve. I would not recommend them to anyone.

When choosing an insurance company, you want one that has empathy for its customers - some "beside manner," that assumes positive intent and doesn't make them jump through hoops when issues arise. The company's telling me that submitting a $52 claim would be denied as the tangential cost of FedExing the certificate is not covered really gets my goat.

I had to change my flight before the trip. It took long time and many emails and phone calls to change the trip date. At the end of frustrating days, they changed to the new dates. I bought this insurance indirectly, so the communication became confused. I am satisfied at the end of trip to have these coverage although I didn't have to use it. The insurance is safety net, hopefully these troubles they cover never happened.

Since I did not have need for the insurance it is hard to say how good it would have been if I did need it. What it did was give me peace of mind before going and while away, for what I considered a fair price.

Yes, I was mostly satisfied with this insurance plan. Since I did not file any claim for reimbursement, I cannot comment on the claims process. Coverage offered by this plan appeared to be excellent in several areas. I would purchase this plan or similar one again for future travels.
