Totally a rip off! I was told that I would not be covered if Mexico would shut down and I couldn't make my trip. I asked for my money back so I could purchase insurance with a company that would cover me and I was told No! I will never purchase anything with them again.

    Dear Valued Customer,

We thank you for your feedback.

While you do have coverage if you are to contract Covid-19, any sort of government closures or shutdowns do require the Cancel For Any Reason protection. Cancel for Any Reason is a time sensitive benefit that must be purchased no later than 21 days from the first day you put any money down towards your trip. Additionally, the insurance policies are non-refundable after the policy review period. Your policy review period was 10 days following the purchase of the policy.

If you have any further questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact our team of representatives by phone at 800-487-4722 or by email at [email protected]

Please read!! Our Ireland trip was planned for April 2020 but obviously Covid got in the way. At that time, if I cancelled we would have received back 100% since the policy was purchased pre-Covid. We still hoped to travel to Ireland so I asked about moving the trip to a later date instead of making a claim but wanted to be sure my coverage would stay the same. I was told I could move it with the same coverage. I kept the policy instead of making a claim and in January 2021 I moved the travel dates to July 14-25 which seemed reasonable for the Ireland to open for travel.

On May 31, I was informed by our tour company that Ireland wouldn't open to US travelers until July 19. We were landing on July 15 so we would miss it by 4 days. I tried to change our dates but was unable. On June 29, I cancelled with our tour company. Two weeks notice seemed like a fair amount of time to give notice to a small family owned tour company. July 19 was a government set date that I had no way to get around.

I contacted C&F in late July to let them know I was submitting a claim. They promptly sent me an email with a list of documentation required to support the claim. I provided everything. I only claimed the tour company deposit which was $1466 of a $6100 policy. Our plan was to use the flight credits in the future.

In late August I received a call from a C&F agent stating that I had been approved for reimbursement but for only 75% for Cancel for Any Reason. I asked why I wasn't getting 100% since it was a pre-Covid policy and was told that based on her "research" I was actually able to get into Ireland starting on January 26, 2021 which she had read on the US Embassy for Ireland's website. I explained that January 26 couldn't be possible because it didn't open until July 19. I was told to provide documentation and/or website links to prove that date.

Within a few hours, I provided the supporting links including one directly from the US Embassy for Ireland's website which states that non-essential US travelers were not allowed in until July 19, 2021 without quarantining for 2 weeks. I did not point out that in all her "research" she failed to notice that the January 26 date was for travelers coming INTO the United States not into Ireland. I assume it was an honest mistake but simple internet research supported the July 19 date that I indicated on my claim.

This morning I received a call that my appeal was denied. I'll still only receive 75% CFR because I did not provide proof that we couldn't enter Ireland on June 29 (the day I cancelled). Ireland has been closed since Covid started which they no doubt know. So I provided proof that it didn't reopen its borders until July 19 BUT they want to me prove that I couldn't enter 20 days earlier (when I cancelled). No joke. Sure sounds like a shell game to avoid paying the additional 25%.

I realize it's only 25% but its about principle now so I'm having InsureMyTrip mediate. I'll update my review when this resolved.

I didn’t use the coverage thankfully. If I had known it didn’t cover if Hawaii was shut down I would not have bought it. I think it’s ridiculous that these policies don’t cover if the country shuts down because of Covid. Personally I think the only reviews that should be published or if you needed insurance because you did get hurt or injured how was the process to get refunded?

Thank you for your Review. Please see the response from Berkshire Hathaway.

"The main benefit that would typically protect a shut down that you have explained would be a Cancel For Any Reason insurance. We apologize that it wasn’t the coverage you were looking for. If you have any questions before any purchases, please feel to reach out to our team at 844-411-2487, we would be happy to explain the benefits. "

Nationwide Mutual Insurance Prime
The only thing that I found cumbersome, and didn't particularly like, was that I could not go directly to Nationwide Mutual Insurance but had to go through Insure My Trip customer care for changes.

We had a trip date change, on a couple of occasions, and I would have preferred to go directly through Nationwide rather than have to contact Insure My Trip who then contacted Nationwide.

    Dear Valued Customer,

Thank you for your feedback. We hope you enjoyed your vacation.

While you certainly could have reached out to Nationwide directly with the change requests, it is preferred that all policy change requests go through InsureMyTrip if you purchased with us. This allows us to properly facilitate and document your requests so we may closely monitor them.

If you have any further questions or concerns, our team of representatives are here 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Our team can be reached by phone at 800-487-4722 or by email at [email protected].

You really are money grabbers, that's all that matters. You know the trip was cancelled, yet send a message asking about the trip. Your mission statement must be: we have their premium, now do everything to avoid paying a claim. We filed, you knew you would not cover covid, we were sent jumping through hoops, then denied the claim. Mission accomplished! We will discourage any and all from generali.

    Dear Valued Customer,

We appreciate your feedback. Please see the response provided by Generali in regards to your review:

"We’re sorry the coverage didn’t meet your expectation. As stated in our policy documents, our plans only reimburse for non-refundable, pre-paid trip costs if you need to cancel your trip for a covered reason. Generali Global Assistance plans do not offer coverage if you cancel your trip due to fear of traveling due to Coronavirus, unless you added Trip Cancellation for Any Reason coverage. However, our plans can help if you are diagnosed with Coronavirus before or during your trip. You just need to meet the standard requirements for coverage due to sickness, and our plans can assist you with Trip Cancellation, Trip Interruption, Travel Delay, Medical & Dental, and Emergency Assistance & Transportation. It is important that you review your Description of Coverage, which are available before and after your purchase. We take the claims process very seriously and want our customers to make informed choices when purchasing travel insurance."

The first question really has no answer since I had no incidents during the trip.
The price and presumed coverage seemed reasonable compared with other companies plans.
