The tragic events of October 7, 2023 and ongoing conflict contributed to the decision by my travel operator to cancel the trip to Israel. Nationwide said that because the tour operator didn’t cancel within the first 30 days of the “terrorist event” that no coverage existed. No tour operator has given tours in Israel since October 7 so that was just a way for Nationwide to avoid any liability. Later when I appealed, they shifted to saying it was a declared “war” despite the fact that Gaza isn’t a “country”. I've used Nationwide over 10 years and only had one other claim and that took months to settle. Buyer beware when traveling to any part of the world that has ongoing civil or military events. Most trip insurance will either not cover the “terrorist” or “war” claim or find a way not to pay the claim using word salad or creative interpretations to avoid payment. Fortunately after all of this, the tour operator refunded our trip deposit and British Airways provided a reasonable time frame to use the value of the air tickets to take another trip.

It is debateable at best. We purchased insurance coverage last summer, and the trip was cancelled due to the war in Israel, cancelled by the organizing group and agency. We got some an email from the insurer when requesting refund of paid monies for insurance puchased that stated: "there is insufficient extenuating circumstances described to allow cancellation at this time." Seriously???

Due to the war on Israel our planned trip was cancelled two months prior to when we were scheduled to go. IMG refused to refund any dollars. I find this unacceptable and therefore will let everyone I know to NOT insure with this company!

The small print said the claim didn’t cover countries at war. Well, Israel wasn’t at war when I bought the policy. The war started because of a terrorist act which was covered by my policy. I’m very dissaisfied.

I’m sorry to hear your trip did not go as planned. Insurance covers for the specific reasons, or covered perils, outlined within the Policy of Insurance. Each claim is fully adjudicated based on the coverage purchased and supporting documentation. You may submit an appeal if your claim was formally denied and you have reason to believe this was an error, or if you have new documentation to support coverage. The easiest way to accomplish this is by responding to the written notification you would have received if/when the claim was denied. You can also reply here, or inform IMT so we can work together to get an appeal started for you.
I purchased a $4000 coverage plan for my trip to Israel. Unfortunately, a terrorist attack occurred, followed by a war outbreak. For safety reasons, the travel provider canceled the trip. My travel insurance, however, refused to cover the $500 non-refundable deposit I paid. They cited that the 33-day gap between the attack and the scheduled departure date exceeded their 30-day limit for coverage. This is extremely frustrating given that the conflict is still ongoing, and I am left as an innocent party affected by these circumstances.
