Comprehensive plans offer the most benefits, including Trip Cancellation and Trip Interruption. These plans provide the best protection for the investment you have made in your trip.
The process took 3mos to resolve and was straight forward for "trip interruption”. After submitting the claim I received 2 more emails requesting the same information again or information that was not germane to "trip interruption”. Medical bills associated with the reason for the "trip interruption" were under my medical insurance. Nationwide would have been secondary IF I had claimed medical - which I did not. It took a phone call to raise a flag that I had no additional info that I hadn’t already provided for “trip interruption”. IMHO the process is too onerous to the point of hoping I would just give up. In the end, I received the EOB’s and checks for “trip interruption” that resulted from me suffering a concussion that required 10 staples in the back of my head in the ER and a 2nd ER visit a day later, after I arrived home due to worsening/related medical issues and not being able to complete the last 5 days of an 11 day tour.

I did not file a claim, but I did determine that this plan has superior coverage flexibility. I got burned by low coverage when I had a trip delay in another plan. Most plans have a $200 limit. With the Trawick plan, I could buy $500, and I did, at a reasonable price. I also liked that it can pay a hospital directly and that you can print a one-page certificate of coverage that is designed specifically to reassure a hospital that you have insurance. That is better than just an identification card alone. I could also buy a higher medical coverage limit than many plans offer. I got $250,000 instead of $100,000.

I didn’t have to use this insurance so I can’t speak to how easy it was to get reimbursed for any medical expenses (which is why I purchased it). I did however see an ambulance take someone off our ship, and also spoke to someone who had had to use trip insurance, and their story reminded me of why I get it, even when I haven’t needed to use it in my travels.

Travel insurance is too expensive for older seniors, period. Even though this policy was less expensive than many others, it still cost hundreds of dollars more than plans with similar coverage for friends who were 10 years younger. The assumption that I am less healthy just because I am older is insulting.

It is difficult to provide a review when there was no claim. Any insurance company can sell a policy and most insurance companies are quite good at selling policies. Until one has a claim to be dealt with it is impossible to know whether or not one is dealing with a good and reputable company. Quite frankly, I hope I never have the experience of needing to file and deal with a claim.

Although I did not have to use the plan and am uncertain as to how well it would actually have worked...I did feel better just having the coverage in case an injury or sickness should have occurred with a company I trust.
Thanks
