Comprehensive plans offer the most benefits, including Trip Cancellation and Trip Interruption. These plans provide the best protection for the investment you have made in your trip.
We didn't need to file a claim, but felt good knowing that we had the policy. We needed it mostly for the medical insurance but the coverage for trip cancellation and other airline related delays gave us some peace of mind. Worth it.

We had purchased a policy through InsureMyTrip with Nationwide. A week before our cruise we experienced a family emergency that would prevent us from going on the cruise. I contacted the cruise line and airlines. They all let us rebook for a later time. I then contacted Nationwide, they told us they would not refund but would transfer the policy. We said that was acceptable and sent them the information they had requested. Two week later I had heard nothing so I contacted again. We were told they had not received our info. So I resent. That was the last I have heard from Nationwide.
Its not worth being upset about so we have moved on. But I do find it to be very interesting that the only "issue" we had with canceling was with the company we had purchased a policy from to prevent any "issues". We plan to continue purchasing policies through InsureMyTrip, but with some other carrier.

The coverage was OK but we were tripped up by the small print. READ IT. READ IT, READ IT, BEFORE, DURING AND AFTER TRAVEL. In middle of trip to Europe one of our party (all vaccinated and boosted) contracted mild Covid. CDC and local health recommendations stated "if you test positive on a lateral flow test but do not feel very ill, self isolate to protect yourself and others and do not travel or mix closely with people in public places until you have most likely cleared the infection, 5 days later, or subsequent tests prove negative. Unless you feel very ill, there is no need to see a doctor". We followed this official advice, canceled one flight and rebooked another for later as well as incurred hotel and other expenses. Assumed this would be covered by Trip Interruption protection. It was not. Despite what official sources say, the insurance policy required a doctor's visit (easy getting an appointment in a pandemic, huh?), a PCR test and an official letter from the doctor advising you not to travel. We did not do this and it cost us about six hundred dollars in change fees, hotel and incidentals. This simply underscores why you should always read the policy carefully to make sure in an emergency you are complying 100% with the policy's terms; common sense is not a substitute for rigid compliance. After a phone call to the claims department I concluded that filing a claim was simply a waste of time . Note: I don't think this is specific to Nationwide.

This plan was cancelled, and I was issued a voucher. Using the voucher has been a complicated nightmare. Insuring a new upcoming trip with the voucher has required multiple calls and emails with both C&F and Insuremytrip. The agents are polite but unable to explain why some changes (dates) are handled by the insurer and others (amount of coverage) are handled by the broker. One call or one submission of the form should have covered all issues. This change isn't rocket science. It is no wonder travel insurers are so backed up with claims when they make the simple application of a voucher a bureaucratic paperwork nightmare. And why do they need detailed documentation from new travel suppliers to apply the voucher? This isn't required for an initial purchase after all. Very disappointed in the process, but I do appreciate the kind and supportive agents at inuremytrip who did try to help.

Claim was settled and I'm waiting for the check. It took a little longer than I would have hoped but communication between myself and the company was pretty clear.

Didn’t need it but when it looked like we might miss our connection, we were not concerned knowing we would be covered for an unplanned overnight stay.
