Thankfully we didn't have to use the insurance. What I particularly liked was the high amount of medical coverage ($25k) it offered. Our HMO only covers a trip to the emergency room or to urgent care if you're overseas. It cost more than some other policies out there, but it provided great peace of mind, just in case something sent one of us to the hospital.

The plan provided peace of mind for our trip. Being stuck in a foreign country during a personal emergency is something no one wants to experience. Especially without the resources needed to get home safely.

Since I had canceled my trip for 2019, and rescheduled it for 2020 I didn’t use the insurance that I had purchased. There was a ton of red tape In order to change the dates from 2019 to the 2020 trip. It would have been easier to get congress to actually do something, than to change the dates on the policy. Basically I ended up wasting the cost of the policy, and will just get another one for the 2020 trip.

Thank you for your review. Insurance providers do allow travelers to transfer their policies from one trip to another. By transferring the policy to a future trip it allows customers to not lose the premium paid for the original policy, but it does require certain documentation to be submitted. Upon notice of the transfer request, an email is sent to the customer with the documentation requirements before the request is sent to the provider for processing. Several emails sent for medical claim from Peru and Ecuador did not go through. Email address was checked and was correct. I tried filing the claim by email when returned to USA and still would not go through. Finally I called and had the insurer email me and I replied with claim attachments and then it went through. Email address in question is [email protected] this needs to be fixed. It took 3 weeks after claim submission on 2/22/19 to get the check.

No matter how you are traveling, if any of your trip has prepaid, non-refundable components, you should consider a Comprehensive plan for road trip travel insurance. You will want driveway-to-driveway coverage which starts the minute you leave your driveway and not the day you check in to your hotel including coverage in the event of road trip delays that you don't expect especially if you are traveling to a remote area which may only be accessible by one road. We also suggest that you check with your health insurance provider to see how your coverage would work when you are traveling outside your home town.
Please note that not all Comprehensive plans provide the appropriate coverage for road travel insurance. Since coverage does vary between plans, we recommend that you call us at 800-487-4722 for guidance in selecting and purchasing the appropriate plan.
