Comprehensive plans offer the most benefits, including Trip Cancellation and Trip Interruption. These plans provide the best protection for the investment you have made in your trip.
It seemed prudent to buy insurance for a 2-week sight-seeing and safari trip to South Africa, Zimbabwe and Botswana. I looked around and found an affordable plan here. (I think I used them when we went to Peru 5 years ago.) No problems either trip. It seems the biggest risk on this trip was catching something from a chronic cougher on the same trip, but we avoided her as much as possible. It'd be interesting to know how insurance might've helped if we got sick while there (or shortly after returning).

I filed a claim after my brand new $1000 camera was drenched with a mixed drink. I was told that I had to file with my home owner's policy first. Isn't the whole purpose of having paid extra for this insurance so that I get better coverage and don't have to take the hit with my primary? I was told that if I did not do that, I'd be limited to $500 (my deductible on my HO policy). So I filed, and was denied. Then still only got $500. Because that's all the policy covers. I can't find that anywhere in the 20pages of fine print. Feel like the adjuster was less than honest/genuine.

Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry to learn that your camera was damaged on your trip. The AIG Travel Guard Gold provides Secondary coverage for Baggage and Personal Effects. If a travel insurance plan is secondary, the insured person(s) would be required to file a claim with their Homeowner's insurance first. If coverage is denied or only partially provided, the travel insurance would cover the remainder, up to the policy limit.
As stated in your policy certificate, your plan covers the following under Baggage and Personal Effects:
"The Company will reimburse the Insured up to:
• 500USD for the first item and thereafter
• 250USD per each additional item
• 500USD aggregate on all Losses to: jewelry, watches, furs, cameras and camera equipment, camcorders, computers, electronic devices, including but not limited to: lap top computers, cell phones, electronic organizers and portable CD players."

We filed three claims - Trip Interruption, Trip Delay, and Medical. The paperwork was somewhat intense! My first package was 22 pages long. Be prepared to PROVE: 1) Who you are (Drivers License/passport) 2) Proof of payment (Not JUST invoices) like canceled checks or Credit Card Statements. 3) Carrier Invoices 4) Documentation from Carrier showing date of delay and reason for delay (Airline Customer service has form letter they send).
Once the paperwork is assembled and received in Claims everything went very well. We spoke to our adjuster and corresponded with her on a couple of questions. We are very pleased with that.
We completed the entire process and was paid via check on all 3 claims inside of 60 days total.
Note that Trip Interruption has a limit of $200 per day per person, If you are in a hotel for multiple days your claim needs to split that up into a per day cost. We actually had two hotel days but our receipt didn't detail that so it looked like one day which pushed us over the limit that one day. I would insure with this company again!

Although I did not need to use my travel policy, on paper the insurance coverage was what I needed. The price was very good. The purchase process worked seamlessly. I would use Insuremytrip and buy TripAssure again.

Hard to evaluate because (thankfully) I had no claim which is when the rubber hits the road for an insurance plan. But the coverage terms were reasonable, especially the pre-x terms. All these plans are very expensive but the Nationwide plan is competitive.
InsureMyTrip is easy to work with and very helpful because of its comprehensiveness and easy to se web site.

I was traveling with my elderly father. Having this policy brought me great stress relief. I am fortunate that we did not need to use the policy, but knowing if something happened, it was there for us. thank you
