Comprehensive plans offer the most benefits, including Trip Cancellation and Trip Interruption. These plans provide the best protection for the investment you have made in your trip.
I purchased this insurance as my husband had been suffering with cancer for many months and I knew there was a possibility he would be too ill to fly and the trip would need to be cancelled. When I called to say I was cancelling I was told I could not because it was the result of a preexisting condition. My husband actually passed away on 1/31 so he definitely couldn't have made the trip. Obviously, I am very angry.

Thank you for your feedback on the policy. We are very sorry for your loss. Without filing a claim, no determination can be made in terms of offering you compensation. Below is the information to contact Generali Global Assistance Claims:
As you had mentioned, the Generali Global Assistance Standard does have a Pre-Existing Condition exclusion. The definition per the certificate is as follows:
"PRE-EXISTING CONDITION means a Sickness or Injury
during the 180-day period immediately prior to your
effective date for which you or your Traveling Companion:
(1) received, or received a recommendation for, a
diagnostic test, examination, or medical treatment; or
(2) took or received a prescription for drugs or medicine.
Item 2 of this definition does not apply to a condition
which is treated or controlled solely through the taking
of prescription drugs or medicine and remains treated or
controlled without any adjustment or change in the required
prescription throughout the 180-day period before coverage
is effective under this Policy."
Please call us at 800-487-4722 if you have any questions or concerns. We would be happy to assist you.
The only problem with this insurance is that there is no compensation for a 3+ day delay of one of my bags when I returned home. Luckily, it was on my return home, but I think having not received my bag for this long period of time, with no compensation (even minimal) is wrong. They do not cover travel delay for arrival at the return place which makes sense, but still - having a bag missing that long is a total inconvenience and you would think that travel insurance would at least have some way to address it.

Thank you for your feedback on the policy. We are sorry to learn that your bags were delayed on the return journey. Baggage Delay benefits are designed to cover replacement of personal necessities when baggage is delayed by common carrier during outbound travel or during segments of your onward journey, but does not include coverage for the return trip to home or your final destination ending the trip. This is the industry standard.
We strongly recommend customers read the terms and conditions of the policy within the review period to determine if the policy fits your needs. If the policy does not fit your needs, it can be cancelled within the review period for a refund of premium. Please call us at 800-487-4722 if you have any questions or concerns.
We purchased this insurance for our cruise. I primarily ended up with this one because they had coverage in case a port was cancelled. We didn't end up using it because our cruise went off just as planned, but the peace of mind was worth the small cost.

Older adults, even though very healthy, are unfairly charged for travel insurance......given there are many young and middle aged people in questionable health who pay half as much for the same coverage. It might be more fair [given actuarial tables are based on averages in general] to go on the basis of health.....even something as simple as how many medications someone takes. Or, charge everyone the same price, regardless of age.

Thank you very much for your reply. Your comments are representative of many of your fellow travelers.
Generally, Comprehensive policy premiums are based on the age of the traveler, the cost of the trip and the length of the trip. As you get older, your premium will increase. However, in order to calculate premiums on the basis of health, there would have to be some form of medical review prior to purchase which would most likely increase the rates and is not practical for travel insurance since it is usually short term.
We certainly understand your concerns. Our licensed insurance experts are always happy to explain any part of the insurance policy. We are available to assist you by phone at 800-487-4722, or by chat, Monday - Friday, 7am-12am EST and Saturday - Sunday, 9am-9pm EST.
I have to qualify my review in that fortunately I didn't need to file a claim. It's truly only in THAT circumstance where satisfaction of service can be evaluated.

I had no problems. I bought a policy for my son and he did have problems that were resolved by his coverage. He added that he was impressed by how nice everyone was.
