Unfair price increase only based on reaching 70 yrs of age in spite of using this company or affiliates for the past 6 years without filing any claims.

Comprehensive policy premiums are typically based on three factors: the cost of the trip, the length of the trip, and the ages of the travelers. Since these plans are not renewable, most travel insurance plans do not offer discounts.

We did not have to file any claims but felt like we had the coverage we needed just in case it was needed. One of the people we ate dinner with each night on the cruise died of a heart attack while snorkeling in Cozumel so it really made us glad that we had travel insurance. Also very glad we did not have to use it.

I opted to get this plan because my traveling companion's mother is older and we just can't predict the future. If something had happened, I had the peace of mind to know (or think I know) that our trip was insured and we wouldn't lose the money paid for the trip. Since I didn't actually have to use the insurance, I can't say whether the coverage was good ...it appears to be and my parents have had to use it in the past and they were happy with the coverage. So, that's good enough for me ...if you knew my mom and their travel companions :) !

Thank you for your comments since it also allows us the opportunity to advise your fellow travelers that they should review the definition of Traveling Companion before purchasing a policy. Your Travelex Travel Basic plan provides this definition:
“ 'Family Member' means the Insured’s, or Traveling Companion’s
• spouse, civil union partner or Domestic Partner,
• Child,
• siblings,
• parents,
• grandparent, step-grandparent, grandchild, or step-grandchild,
• step-child, step-sibling, or step-parent,
• step-aunt or step-uncle,
• parent-in-law,
• daughter-in-law or son-in-law,
• brother-in-law or sister-in-law,
• aunt or uncle,
• niece or nephew,
• legal guardian,
• Caregiver,
• foster Child, ward or legal ward;
• spouse, civil union partner, or Domestic Partner of any of the above.
• Family Member also includes these relations to the Insured’s or Traveling Companion’s, spouse, civil union partner or Domestic Partner."

Thank you for your reply. Your AIG Travel Guard Basic plan provided 100,000 USD in Emergency Medical Evacuation which provides transportation when:
"(a) the Insured's medical condition warrants immediate transportation from the place where the Insured is injured or sick to the nearest Hospital where appropriate medical treatment can be obtained;
(b) after being treated at a local Hospital, the Insured's medical
condition warrants transportation to where the Insured resides, to obtain further medical treatment or to recover; or
(c) both (a) and (b) above."
Of course, AIG Travel Guard does offer higher limits with the Silver plan 150,000 USD, Gold plan 500,000 USD or Platinum plan 1,000,000 USD.

A claim was filed on our behalf for a major medical reason involving our daughter. We were told it's not covered and to read the exclusions. It would appear that the exclusions have exclusions. Either way the insurance has no value and the company will find a way to issue a denial. For our money this was a waste .

When we received your comments on October 31st, we assigned your potential claim to an advocate. Based on the information that you provided, our advocate called the Nationwide claims department who confirmed your telephone conversation and pointed out the applicable exclusion in the policy, so no claim was actually filed.
Of course, it is never good news to hear that there is no coverage in your policy for a medical issue. If you would like to call Customer Care to discuss this further, we are available to call at (800) 487-4722 Mondays through Friday from 7:00 AM to midnight and weekends 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM.
