The escalation of cost for these policies due solely to age is understandable, but the steepness of that escalation should be modified for those clients such as myself who are on no medications because despite their age they are in good health. I know you can't simply accept my word on that fact, but it would be nice if a way to communicate that information in a form that would not force you to simply accept my word.

    Comprehensive plan premiums are generally based on trip cost, age of travelers and length of trip. It is possible that what you are seeing as a significant increase to rates as the result of age may also be due to a higher trip cost and longer length of trip.

    Although the travel industry is well aware that there are many travelers who may be healthier than others, it is a determination that cannot be made exclusively by purchasing a policy through an online website. That would most likely require prior medical testing which would be an expense that would probably increase your rates.

I had an unexpected injury in the back country of Baja California. After getting to a place with a telephone, I was able to reach the 800 number and got assistance and authorization for an evacuation. The plan paid off my evacuation-related costs (including airline change fees) and also paid for the unused portion of my trip. they made me file a request with my health insurer, Kaiser, to get back the hospital charge, which was negligible, since this was Mexico.
I am very grateful I had insurance and the service was excellent. I will buy again from this company.

Unfortunately, we had to cancel our Mediterranean cruise only two weeks before our departure date because my wife had a medical injury. General Global Assistance did require verification of her injury and full details of trip purchases, payments, and refunds -- only to be expected when such a large dollar claim is filed. However, upon audit and verification of the submitted details, GSA promptly approved and paid the claim in full. We could not be more pleased with GSA's handling of this claim, and we'll return to GSA for future trip coverage.

My wife had a health issue that arose about a week before our trip. I called your claim office because I needed clarity about the coverage in case it was determined by our doctor that we would have to cancel the trip.

The person I spoke to could not give us clarity as to whether our claim would be honored. I don't think our request was unreasonable. If the doctor had told us that surgery was needed sooner rather than later or that my wife would not be healthy enough to make the trip, we would have had to cancel. I would have like clarity from your staff. Instead, all they would tell me was that a decision regarding coverage could not be made until after a claim was filed. I did not find this helpful.

Luckily, my wife's doctor told her that she could postpone the surgery until after we returned from the trip, so we didn't have to cancel. However, I hope you can empathize with our situation.

    With all travel insurance products, the claims administrator is required to adjudicate claims based on the terms and conditions of the policy. Unfortunately, in no event can a claim be pre-determined, as you would be required to provide Proof of Loss to determine appropriate coverage.

    The Generali Global Assistance Preferred plan has the following number one covered reason to cancel or interrupt your trip:

    "The Sickness, Injury or death of you, your Family Member, your Traveling Companion or your Service Animal. The Sickness or Injury must first commence while your coverage is in effect under the Policy, must require the in-person treatment by a Physician, and must be so disabling in the written opinion of a Physician as to prevent you from taking your Trip (either because your condition prevents your travel, or because your Family Member, Traveling Companion or your Service Animal requires your care);"

    This plan will exclude:

    "Sickness or Injury during the 180-day period immediately prior to your
    effective date for which you or your Traveling Companion:
    (1) received, or received a recommendation for, a diagnostic test, examination, or medical treatment; or
    (2) took or received a prescription for drugs or medicine.

    Item 2 of this definition does not apply to a condition which is treated or controlled solely through the taking of prescription drugs or medicine and remains treated or controlled without any adjustment or change in the required prescription throughout the 180-day period before coverage
    is effective under this Policy."
