This insurance was reasonable and competitive in price, and provided the needed coverage. However, when our total trip amount dropped substantially well before the trip date, due to a reduction in ticket prices, the company was totally unwilling to adjust our insurance price accordingly. We were forced to insure our trip for twice the needed amount. I realize that information is buried in their fine print, but we did not appreciate the lack of understanding and flexibility the company operates under. I would never use this company for my travel needs again.

We can understand that you would not be pleased with the response. Unfortunately, it is not the decision of InsureMyTrip, but it is based on the wording on page 1 of your policy certificate.
"All premium is non-refundable after a ten (10) day review period. In the event the premium paid for coverage is less than the required premium for coverage, benefits will be paid in direct proportion of the actual amount paid to the required premium due."
You are certainly able to request changes to your policy any time prior to your departure date, but a refund would not be provided if the change resulted in a decrease in premium.

When I purchased the plan I had paid for the air fare and the deposit on the tour portion. Since I was anxious to have pre-existing medical condition coverage I immediately purchased the insurance, with the understanding that I could increase the face value amount of the policy when I paid for the remainder of the trip. However, when I paid for the remainder of the trip and contacted you to appropriately increase my coverage, the cost of the additional insurance was at a much much higher rate - frankly unbelievable - and there was nothing I could do so I paid it. I was held hostage in order to have pre-existing condition converage. I am sure that the insurance was good and was valuable, but its COST was prohibitive, unreasonable, and took very bad advantage of me.

Each insurance provider determines their own rates subject to the approval of the state's insurance department. Many of our providers do not use a flat rate. Some providers charge a higher rate at the lower range of trip cost, while other providers charge a higher rate at the upper ranges of trip cost. We generally encourage our customers to quote at your total expected trip cost so you can review the final premium in advance.

The Essential Plan seems to be reasonably priced for the coverage. Medical evacuation and trip cancellation are my two concerns on any trip and this one has good coverage for that. Fortunately, I did not need to use the plan, but had the peace of mind that it was there. I have purchased this plan several times for cruises, and haven't had to use any of the provisions. One of the couples I travelled with this time had a medical issue 3 days before the trip and one ended up in hospital. He was discharged in time to go, but might have needed the plan if he wasn't (they also had purchased the plan). It just seems like a prudent purchase when you've invested so much in a vacation. Like other insurance you have, you hate to pay for it, hope to never need it, but want the coverage in case...

I wish this plan covered for the port that was canceled, or that we missed on my vacation. This wasn’t even a thought or concern when I purchased my policy! I was happy with the price I paid for my concerns at the time.
After my experience, I will definitely take this into consideration next time and purchase a different type of policy that provides better coverage!
