In business since 1926, Nationwide focuses on providing the best possible service for its customers. Nationwide travel insurance plans offer a range of innovative benefits for a variety of travel needs.
The plan provided the basics for a reasonable price. Fortunately, I didn’t need to use it, so I can’t comment on customer service or support if you need to file a claim.

Trip cancellation, interruption and delay are very specific per each policy. Be sure to read the fine print as to when they take in effect so as not to be disappointed later when a claim is not paid. Sadly, Nationwide would not cover our trip delay expenses because the delay was not 6 hours or more.

Travelers will find that every Comprehensive plan makes basic trip cancellation coverage available that will extend coverage for the cancellation of a trip for specific unforeseen, covered reasons. Commonly, travel insurance plans, such as the Nationwide Essential plan, will cover reasons such as:
The unexpected death, illness, or injury of you and/or a traveling companion that deems you unfit to travel, by order of a licensed physician;
The hospitalization or death of a non-traveling family member;
Weather or common carrier related issues that causes your common carrier to cease operations for 24 hours;
Unforeseen natural disasters at home or the destination; and
A legal obligation, such as being called for jury duty or to appear as a witness in court. However, we recommend that you review the covered reasons in your certificate since they do vary from plan to plan.
Travel Delay under the Nationwide Essential plan does reimburse the traveler for your incurred expenses but only after a six hour delay for a
Hazard which means:
"a) Any delay of a Common Carrier (including Inclement Weather).
b) Any delay by a traffic accident en route to a departure, in which You or a Traveling Companion is not directly involved.
c) Any delay due to lost or stolen passports, travel documents or money, quarantine, hijacking, unannounced Strike,
natural disaster, civil commotion or riot.
d) A closed roadway causing cessation of travel to the destination of the Covered Trip (substantiated by the department of transportation, state police, etc.)"
InsureMyTrip encourages all customers to the certificate which is attached to each quote prior to purchasing.
Used Nationwide for travel insurance back in Dec 2017. Had to file a claim, which they dragged for 2 months with multiple calls and emails. Then refused to cover my claim with incorrect information on their justification. Will never do business with Nationwide again.

Thank you for your feedback on the policy. We are sorry to learn that you are dissatisfied with this plan. We understand that it is never pleasant to receive a denial for reimbursement under the Trip Delay coverage. However, the claims administrator is required to adjudicate claims based on the terms and conditions of the policy. Unfortunately, it was determined that the amount of time you were delayed did not fall within the scope of Trip Delay for this specific plan.
The Trip Delay benefit of the policy purchased reimburses for Economy Fare from the point where you ended your Covered Trip to a destination where You can catch up to the Covered Trip if you are delayed en route to or from the Trip for six (6) hours or more due to a defined hazard. Due to the fact that none of your flights were delayed by six hours or more, Nationwide denied your claim.
In the future, please call us at 800-487-4822 prior to purchasing a policy so that we can assist you in selecting a policy that best suits your needs.
I had a medical emergency while on an Alaskan Cruise. Getting a response from the company (how to file a claim, required documentation, etc.) was kind of slow, 2-3 weeks to answer an e-mail, but the claim was paid with no issues. Nationwide had the best price for my needed coverage. Overall a great value.

Although I rated everything a five star I'm not really sure how the coverage would have worked if needed. However, when researching for coverage I found the information easy to understand and the representative that I chatted with was fantastic. Having affordable coverage put my mind at ease.
