I did not need to file a claim for this trip, but I have filed 4 claims with Nationwide travel insurance over the last several years, and all 4 were handled promptly and courteously. We will continue to use Nationwide for our cruise travel insurance.

Before my trip began, I changed the number of insured days on my vacation from 28 days to 22 days, but I received NO refund for the reduced coverage. Although I reduced the number of insured days by 6, I was charged the same amount as for the full 28 days, $524. It seems to me that I should have been charged a lesser fee for a shorter coverage period.

I paid extra $1,300 for my flight from London to Manila with Air China because my original flight with Shenzhen Airlines ($999) was postponed for the next day. It was a Sunday, their office was closed, have tried calling them, I even went to the airport but Shenzhen Air didn't have any representative there. I wanted to explain to them that I won't make it to my connecting flight in Bao'an China if I take their postponed flight.
Nationwide paid only $600 for the new flight that I paid after Shenzhen messed up everything for mine and my husband's flight.

The tragic events of October 7, 2023 and ongoing conflict contributed to the decision by my travel operator to cancel the trip to Israel. Nationwide said that because the tour operator didn’t cancel within the first 30 days of the “terrorist event” that no coverage existed. No tour operator has given tours in Israel since October 7 so that was just a way for Nationwide to avoid any liability. Later when I appealed, they shifted to saying it was a declared “war” despite the fact that Gaza isn’t a “country”. I've used Nationwide over 10 years and only had one other claim and that took months to settle. Buyer beware when traveling to any part of the world that has ongoing civil or military events. Most trip insurance will either not cover the “terrorist” or “war” claim or find a way not to pay the claim using word salad or creative interpretations to avoid payment. Fortunately after all of this, the tour operator refunded our trip deposit and British Airways provided a reasonable time frame to use the value of the air tickets to take another trip.
