Even with adding on coverage and premium the plan (like many others) is too expensive. For example, you have to pay for coverage of the entire cruise fare when you pay it even though much of it is refundable if you need to cancel 3 months out. For the small amount that was covered until the last couple of months the premium is excessive.

Each Company will base the premiums of their plans by 3 main factors; (1) the ages of the travelers, (2) the length of your trip from home to home and (3) the total cost of your pre-paid trip cost. On top of this premium, when adding additional coverage, such as Cancel For Any Reason, the premiums will increase. Since the insurance is providing coverage for a larger risk, the premium you pay will also go up accordingly.

We researched several of these travel insurance companies to insure our non-refundable, costly plane tickets. Nationwide Mutual received good reviews online so we went with it. Fortunately, we didn't need the insurance plan, but we were glad to have it for peace of mind.

Due to the hurricane, I sent in a claim for my airfare. I did not receive a response. I have since been credited back from the airlines. It would have been nice to have been contacted in a more timely manner about my claims. Turns out the only money I lost on my trip was the money I paid for the insurance I did not end up needing. Poor communication from company.

Thank you for your feedback on the policy. We are sorry that you were dissatisfied with your claim experience. We are pleased that you ultimately received reimbursement of your loss from the airline. As you know, the recent Natural Disasters have caused a higher than normal call volume and process time. However, we do want you and your fellow customers to be aware that InsureMyTrip offers a Customer Advocate Program. Customer Advocates are representatives assigned to assist customers who experience issues after filing a claim. Requesting a Customer Advocate is as simple as calling 800-487-4722 or emailing [email protected], explaining the events which resulted in a claim, and the challenges you are facing.
I'm very glad I did not have to use the plan. I found the price reasonable in the event of emergency, which thankfully did not happen. I would not hesitate to use Insuremytrip again.
