Like any insurance you never know if it was enough or to much. I am still not sure if what I bought was the correct policy with the correct coverage. Having said this I believe in travel insurance, what we did purchase was the best bang for the buck. Next time how can I consult with an agent to make sure I'm buying the right policy?

The thing about good insurance is not needing it. I had good peace of mind. The proof of excellent insurance is when you make a claim and how it is handled. I hope I never need excellent insurance, but excellent piece of mind if much better.

Unsure at this point as to whether I would recommend plan or not--we'll see how they handle our claim; weather canceled our fight and the next available flight w/ seats was 24 hrs. later; because other flights left the airport later in the day, the airport was classified as not being "closed" and thus trip interruption was not declared--only trip delay. I was, and still am hoping that the first night's lodging at our destination which was pre-paid would be covered, but apparently only a new room at the delayed location is considered a covered, reimbursable expense. As we went back home, Nationwide is claiming no coverage for the night's lodging of our "delay" that we had pre-paid. I understand the legalese of contract terms, but it seems to me that trip insurance is taken out to protect the pre-paid expenses. We'll see if they will cover the dinner we had out as we had no food in the house. Fortunately, the other plans we had for the day/night we couldn't get to our destination were either rescheduled for the next day, or cancelled without penalty. I shudder to think based upon what Nationwide told me about our lodging, what might have happened if we had decided to go to one of the newer high-end restaurants that insist upon pre-payment in advance and no refunds if you don't show for the meal.

    Unfortunately, your claim did not fall under the terms and conditions of the Trip Interruption benefit, and as a result the pre-paid expenses could not be reimbursed. However, the maximum Travel Delay benefit was paid to reimburse the.reasonable additional expenses.

Fortunately, We did not need to use our coverage, however there were others on the trip ( or not on the trip) that lost a lot of money because life happened and they ( some or all) couldn't go.

We did not need to make a claim, but family traveling with us had to cancel and did file a claim. Nationwide's call center representative gave misleading information that our family's claim would be covered. After submitting the claim it was denied. It wasn't until we later appealed that Nationwide offered coverage.
