The Nationwide Universal Cruise plan is designed for travelers going on a cruise during their trip. Coverages include Trip Cancellation, Trip Interruption, Medical, Emergency Medical Evacuation, and in most states, an Itinerary Change Inconvenience benefit.
To learn more, see the Nationwide Universal Cruise product page.
We are very sorry to hear that your claim with Nationwide Mutual was denied under Trip Interruption which is the benefit that offers travelers reimbursement of their pre-paid, non-refundable expenses should they unexpectedly need to cut their travel short. However, reimbursement for your prepaid hotel expenses must be based on a covered reason as listed in your policy or your claim will be denied. Since bathroom failure on the plane did not fit into any of the listed events, your Trip Interruption claim was denied.
You were also not covered under Trip Delay because it would only reimburse you for (a) Any reasonable additional expenses incurred; or (b) A one-way Economy Fare to return You to Your originally scheduled return destination, but not for pre-paid non-refundable travel expenses.
Although we understand your disappointment, the Nationwide Universal Cruise plan is still a comprehensive travel insurance policy which provides a wide range of benefits. Regrettably none of our plans will cover every situation.
We certainly hope that you continue to consider a Nationwide plan for future trips.
