I had purchased travel insurance in the past but never had a reason to file a claim. This was the first time we were filing a claim for travel cancellation due to medical reason and I was a bit skeptical about my claim settlement. However Travelex Insurance put all my doubts to rest. I almost cancelled due to "civil unrest." This would not have been covered. I changed my mind and went, but not because of this clause. Otherwise, the plan was fine.

A claim was submitted because there was a trip interruption during the cruise in that a port of call was not fulfilled due to weather, a valid condition. Travelex did not honor the claim basically saying that the cruise itself was not interrupted. However, we would not have incurred this additional expense for this port if it were not originally listed in the itinerary. I thought I had appropriate protection coverage only to find out this was not the case. BUYER BEWARE!! I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES!!

With the Travelex Travel Basic policy, weather-related claims would only be covered if the following had occurred:
Trip Cancellation / Trip Interruption:
3. Common Carrier delays resulting from inclement weather, or mechanical breakdown or organized labor strikes that affect public transportation.
4. arrangements cancelled by an airline, cruise line, motor coach company or tour operator, resulting from inclement weather, mechanical breakdown or organized labor strikes that affect public transportation.
Missed Cruise Connection Benefit:
We will reimburse you for Covered Expenses, up to the amount shown in the schedule, should you miss your cruise departure as a result of the cancellation or delay of 3 or more hours of all regularly scheduled airline flights due to inclement weather.
Although this particular policy would not cover the situation you have experienced, we do have other plans that could, depending on your trip details. Comprehensive plan premiums are calculated based on your age, trip cost and length of trip. Since your previous Travelex Basic plan was based on a total trip cost of 2226 USD, you would have seen a considerable increase in premium for this trip since it has a total trip cost of 6184 USD.
