I have a question about this subject!

Question:

My wife and I both have elderly mothers. Which insurance would I need if we needed to cancel our trip (or return early) because of a medical issue involving the mothers or for that matter any immediate family member?
- LarryC,

Answer:

This is covered with all comprehensive policies. The number one covered reason for Trip Cancellation and Trip Interruption is the unforeseen illness or injury of you or a traveling companion that deems you unfit to travel, by order of a licensed physician; or the unforeseen hospitalization or death of a family member. This includes non-traveling family members as well. Question:

For a flight cancellation it’s usually because of the weather, strike or mechanical problems. What about shortage and of staff?
- MelindaL,

Answer:

That is not something covered with Trip Cancellation, unfortunately. To see all of the covered reasons to cancel or interrupt your trip, please click on the dollar amount that appears under the words "Trip Cancellation" when viewing a quote. We typically recommend "cancel for any reason" if your concerns are not covered with Trip Cancellation. There are typically 3 conditions that must be met to purchase a Cancel For Any Reason Rider: Purchase the policy within 10 - 21 days of First Trip Payment; Insure ALL prepaid and non-refundable travel expenses prior to departure; Trip arrangements must be canceled more than 48 -72 hours prior to the departure date. If you meet all 3 of these conditions, this benefit will typically reimburse you 75% of your trip cost, unless otherwise noted.

Question:

Does travel insurance cover me if the airline cancels my flight?
- MarianneH,
03/08/2020

Answer:

Typically, if the airline cancels your flight you may be able to request a refund. It may be a good idea to check with your airline to see what their cancellation policy is. Standard comprehensive plans are not going to cover trip cancellation due to Coronavirus related fears/issues as it is now a known event. If fear of travel is the main concern, you would want to purchase a comprehensive plan with optional Cancel For Any Reason coverage selected. There are some eligibility requirements for this coverage, such as insuring 100% of pre-paid, non-refundable trip costs, purchasing your coverage within 10-21 days of your initial trip payment, and you must cancel your trip no less than 2 days prior to departure. Cancel For Any Reason can reimburse a portion, typically up to 50%-75%, of your trip cost depending on the plan purchased. A policy with Cancel For Any Reason can cost an additional 40%-60% more than a standard policy, is not available in all states, and eligibility requirements may differ by company.

Question:

we are traveling to the Caribbean with two other couples, we are renting a villa and splitting the cost three ways - should I value the trip on entire cost of the villa or only my portion? (in addition to the airfare and car rental costs)
- Tawnya,
04/11/2017

Answer:

If you live in the same state and travel on the same dates, you can all be listed on the same policy together. If only you and your spouse want insurance coverage, you would only insure your portion of the prepaid non-refundable trip cost on your policy.

Question:

We are planning on renting a 3 month vacation home in Florida Jan-March 2018. The contract has to be signed by March 2017. The rental company doesn't offer insurance to cover the cost of the rental if we had to cancel the rental after we sign the vacation rental contract. Are there trip insurance plans that will cover the cost of the vacation rental? We do not need a plan that covers our medical, lost baggage etc.
- SusanH,

Answer:

As long as the rental home is prepaid and non-refundable, you can insure the cost with our comprehensive plans. Unfortunately, we are unable to remove any benefits from the policies.
