You can purchase most policies up until the day before departure, however; you may not be eligible for some time sensitive benefits if you do not purchase within 10-21 days of the initial trip deposit/payment. Some time sensitive benefits are, but not limited to: Pre-Existing Condition Waiver, Financial Default, Terrorism, Cancel For Any Reason and Cancel For Work Reasons.

Unfortunately, if the cancellation is for a reason not specified in the policy certificate under Trip Cancellation, it will not be covered. You would need a policy that includes Cancel for Any Reason for that particular concern.

Primary coverage will pay FIRST, before any other collectible insurance. Secondary coverage will pay you after any other Primary collectible insurance has paid the claim and the Primary policy's limits have been exhausted. For a claim related to Baggage loss, you would first file a claim with your homeowners insurance or the common carrier. For a claim related to Medical or Medical Evacuation, you would first file a claim with your primary health insurance.
