Comprehensive plans offer the most benefits, including Trip Cancellation and Trip Interruption. These plans provide the best protection for the investment you have made in your trip.
Since I had no claims, I can't really comment on the insurance company. The John Hancock Gold insurance plan provided peace of mind, but the trip came off without a hitch. There was only one short airline delay which caused no problems.

The Cancel for Any Reason option would have been a great feature to add on, but wasn't available as I didn't purchase the plan within the right number of days.

Thank you for your feedback on the policy. The CSA Travel Protection Custom Luxe plan offers a Cancel For Any Reason benefit if the policy is purchased within 24 hours of making the initial trip payment.
Aside from CSA, the majority of travel insurance companies offering Cancel For Any Reason contain the following requirements:
1) Purchase the policy within 10-30 days of First Trip Payment.
2) Insure ALL prepaid and non-refundable travel expenses prior to departure.
3) Trip must be canceled more than 2 days prior to departure date.
If you meet all 3 of these conditions, most of the policies will reimburse you up to 75% of your trip costs, unless otherwise noted.
During my trip, I had a weather caused delay and trip interruption. I notified CSA by email and received immediate contact information. Upon return, I filed my claim for the expenses related to the delay, and about 20 days later received checks covering the expenses.

Purchasing was easy with side by side comparisons. I did not make any claims, so cannot attest to the ease of that. As such this review is purely on the purchasing/comparison process.

Plan provisions were fine for our purposes. We were traveling to foreign countries where we had relatives and knew the localities fairly well. Because we would be away for a month, we needed something that included medical. We had one unplanned doctor's visit due to illness and the expenses were fully reimbursed. It took some weeks and some extra emails/faxes to get the required information across, but the reimbursement came eventually, so no complaints. I would have no problem using this plan again.

One cannot really review insurance coverage until they submit a claim. In this instance my adventure travel company required that I have specific types of coverage which I was obliged to secure. CSA offered the package I needed and their reviews were within reason.
