It's hard to rate the trip insurance since we didn't have to use it, although it almost came to that for different reasons than what we expected. But for the money...and the peace of mind...we suppose that it was all worth it. And if it had come to it, I am hoping that the company would have stepped up as easily as they made it seem. We will probably never go on another trip without trip insurance.

Unfortunately our trip had to be cancelled due to medical reasons. Provided all necessary paperwork to AXA by registered mail and followed up with phone call to confirm that all documentation required had been received. Their claims department stated that we would hear in approximately 30 days. When that date had passed and we had not heard we called them. At that point AXA informed us that the actual claim form had not been included in the package! There were several phone calls between ourselves and AXA over a period of 2 days, after which we received an e-mail stating our claim had been processed and approved in full. Apart from those final 2 days we received a good response from the company.

When we make major trips, we always buy this same policy because it offers the coverage we need at a very competitive price. We did not have any claims on our last trip but we did on the one immediately previous to the last one. Those claims were paid promptly when I provided the property documentation. Travel insurance is very important coverage and a comprehensive policy like this one covers us against the most dire of circumstances - medical evacuation and medical care. Were an event to occur, we could quickly find ourselves in significant debt to pay those expenses. We think that insuring against those possibilities is the prudent decision.

I purchase a plan every year for our vacation through insuremytrip, but never leave a review, since you can only rate a company IF something goes wrong. Well, this year it did, and I must say that I was extremely happy with AXA and the service they provided. They contacted me overseas as soon as they found out I was ill, and started the paperwork to arrange direct payment to the hospital where I was. Unfortunately, since it was the weekend, and with the time difference, their approval did not arrive before I left the hospital on a Sunday afternoon, so I had to pay for the charges with my credit card. I filed my claim upon my return, and I did make sure it was complete with copies of all receipts and medical information. I received my payment in full within 2 weeks, well ahead of their 30 day window. I guess I was glad I got a "gold" plan where the plan is the primary payer for medical bills, and not secondary, or I would have had to wait to file a claim with my own insurance company...and they are slower than molasses on a winter's day. Also, some of the AXA reps, such as Victoria, were terrific, and gave excellent service, even while I was stuck in an overseas hospital. All in all, they came through when I needed them, and that is the true measure of any plan to purchase (ALL companies take your premiums with no problems, but will they pay when you have an issue???). I have always purchased through insuremytrip, but now I will also ensure that I always purchase an AXA gold plan, because of the excellent processing of my claim. I recommend them wholeheartedly.

I like the AXA plan because it covers pre-existing conditions (if bought during a short window after the first trip payment) and (according to my reading of the policy) doesn't require that the customer insure 100% of trip expenses in order to make a claim based on a pre-existing condition. All other companies seem to require that 100% of expenses be insured.
The real test of an insurance policy is whether the company actually pays legitimate claims. Fortunately I didn't have a need to file a claim so I can't evaluate this critical issue.

At the time you purchased the policy, the AXA Assistance USA Silver plan offered the pre-existing conditions waiver without requiring the traveler to insure the full trip cost. However, AXA Assistance USA has recently made changes to their policies. The Silver plan no longer offers the pre-existing condition waiver. The AXA Assistance USA Gold and Platinum plans offer the pre-existing condition waiver, but the customer is now required to insure the full trip cost. Please call us at 800-487-4722 if you have any questions about the pre-existing conditions exclusion and the pre-existing conditions waiver on AXA's policies or any policy offered on our website.

Received an email about 10 days prior to our departure reminding us of our policy coverage, other things to remember,
Reminding us to bring a copy of the policy as I recall-- it was a helpful reminder-- I've never gotten an email like that before from s travel insurance company-- very thoughtful and a great idea!!
