AXA Assistance USA is part of the AXA Group, one of the world's largest and financial companies servicing over 95 million people worldwide, with over 60 years of experience in the travel insurance industry.
Thankfully I did not need to use my travel insurance, however it was comforting just knowing I would be covered if it became necessary. The price for the insurance was comparable to others and I would definitely use AXA again in the future.

Your company's customer service STINKS!!!!!!! After devastating floods on Kauai just before our trip began, I called to explore coverage due to a natural disaster (declared so by the Hawaii state governor). All I got were two different reps who did nothing but read from your legal-eeze filled conditions of coverage. They offered nothing in the way of interpretation, or application of the policy to our circumstances. Had we actually needed to file a claim, I would have been strictly on my own, not having any clue as to what would be covered, and what would not. We will NEVER again use AXA for travel insurance. It is throwing money away to think AXA might actually cover any part of expenses incurred due to a natural disaster. (We travel a lot, and do purchase travel insurance regularly. Yes, I did file a claim once, for a medical emergency. Yes, one of your competitors did honor our claim. So, I do know something about the process. Yes, I repeat, your company STINKS!!!!!. As a first step, why don't you hire some phone reps that actually try to help your customers. Anybody can read your legal-eeze back over the phone. What is needed is some help with LOGICAL and PRACTICAL interpretation of your policies based on local conditions.)

Thank you very much for taking time to submit your review to share with your fellow travelers. As an online platform, our “Ratings and Reviews†allows our customers to share their personal experiences with our insurance providers, but it also offers our providers an opportunity to better explain their policies. In reply to your comments, AXA Assistance USA reviewed your calls. At the time of your call, the Hawaiian State government had not yet declared the devastating floods a natural disaster. You had also indicated that your flights were not impacted and your resort was open and operational. You expressed concern that you would be spending your vacation in your hotel room instead of traveling around the island, so you wanted to explore canceling your trip under Trip Cancellation.
In any travel insurance plan, Trip Cancellation reimburses only if it’s a covered reason as listed in the policy. Covered Reasons vary from plan to plan. With respect to natural disasters, your Trip Cancellation coverage was limited to the following covered reasons:
“...(b) Inclement weather, Natural Disasters, Terrorist Attacks, or mechanical breakdown of the common carrier which results in the complete cessation of travel services at the point of departure or destination for at least 24 consecutive hours.
(c) Natural Disaster or documented man-made disaster at the point of departure or Your destination which renders Your primary residence or the accommodations at Your destination uninhabitable...â€
Since you called the company 3 days prior to your departure date when your flights were still flying and your resort was still open, there was no basis for a Trip Cancellation claim. We understand that this is never what a customer wants to hear, so the representatives went through the plan to explain the reasons that might apply if your flights were canceled or the resort closed as you got closer to your departure date.
In the future, you may wish to call us for assistance prior to purchasing a policy. You could have purchased Cancel for Any Reason (CFAR) which is an optional benefit offering the opportunity to cancel your travel plans for reasons other than those listed as “covered reasons†on a policy. CFAR gives you greater flexibility and freedom when making decisions about your travel reservations. CFAR is offered as an add-on benefit if you meet certain criteria. Under an AXA Platinum plan, CFAR would reimburse you for 75% of your prepaid, non-refundable travel expenses as long as you met the coverage conditions.
We are sorry to hear that your interaction with AXA was not what you were expecting, but it's important for travelers to understand the importance of the covered reasons listed in all travel insurance plans. Perhaps you will give us an opportunity in the future to insure your trips.
So glad I bought this coverage. My trip was a fully-supported bicycle ride across the US.
One person had a serious crash and two-day hospital stay. Another had a serious medical issue.
Prior to the start of the trip, another person had to drop out. He lost the entire cost of his trip (around $10,000). This coverage would have given a partial refund to him. It would also have provided medical assistance/transportation costs to the crash victim.
This plan was reasonably priced and provided great coverage. So glad I bought the coverage.

One week after filing we received an email from AXA confirming our claim had been received and that it could be up to 30 days for a response. Six weeks later we get another email saying the claim cannot be processed without further information, they wanted a copy of an E-ticket for a rebooked flight, since there was no rebooked flight and that was made very clear in the initial claim, I can only assume that AXA was trying to deny the claim and trying to get out of paying out. After responding, they finally issued a check almost three weeks later. So total time to settle was 9-10 weeks. This was a simple claim, dealing with a flight cancellation, hotel reimbursement and alternative travel, I can't imagine how long it would take if it was more complex.

Thank you for your feedback on the policy. We are sorry that you were dissatisfied with your claim experience. We are pleased that you ultimately received reimbursement of your loss. We do want you and your fellow customers to be aware that InsureMyTrip offers a Customer Advocate Program. Customer Advocates are representatives assigned to assist customers who experience issues after filing a claim. Requesting a Customer Advocate is as simple as calling 800-487-4722 or emailing [email protected], explaining the events which resulted in a claim, and the challenges you are facing.
I have used the Insure My Trip website to buy travel insurance for several trips. It is easy to use. Multiple options at various levels of coverage are suggested. The prices are more reasonable than the policies offered through the travel companies that I use. So far, I have not had to file a claim, so I have no comment in that area. I have selected policies from AXA several times. AXA offers a good range of coverage options.

Fortunately, I did not have to use the plan so I am unable to provide a review. While our luggage never made it on the plane on our day of departure, April 21st, we finally received it on April 23rd and all was intact, so no need to file a claim.
I will say thanks for providing assistance when making a decision to purchase the policy.

Nothing happened to me. So that good. Except I've got about $250. less than I have at the start and I didn't use any benefits. But what can ya do? I insured my trip and now I'm home safely. End of story.
