AXA Assistance USA is part of the AXA Group, one of the world's largest and financial companies servicing over 95 million people worldwide, with over 60 years of experience in the travel insurance industry.
On our flight home our bags were delayed for 39 hours I filed a claim with AXA after reading through our plan and was told we would received a benefit up to $100 a day. In the paperwork for the Gold coverage I received for my trip, it does not explicitly state that coverage for a delayed bag is based upon incurred expenses. Not only is the wording in the policy misleading but so is the claim form and the representatives are uninformed. So if your bags are ever delayed for 39 long and inconvenient hours, make sure to go out and buy some things so you can get this benefit. We deiced to make the worst out of a bad situation and instead of heading upstate since we had no sneakers or bathing suits, we waited out the arrival of our luggage and decided to put our visit off a couple of days. We would have been better off buying new sneakers and bathing suits because our claim would have been approved. Apparently being flexible enough to change our plans but highly inconvenienced is not the right thing to do. In the past, we have used another company for our travel insurance so we will be going back to them since it is evident AXA interrupts their benefits so they don’t have to pay their customers when a problem exists.
The wording in the document is as follows:
BAGGAGE DELAY / BAGGAGE DELIVERY
We will pay You, up to the maximum shown on the Schedule of Benefits, if Your Checked Baggage is delayed or misdirected by a Common Carrier for more than 24 hours, while on a Covered Trip.
If Your Checked Baggage is delayed after You have reached Your destination and the Common Carrier makes a charge for delivery, We will pay the reasonable cost up to the Baggage Delivery Maximum Benefit shown on the Schedule of Benefits to deliver Your Checked Baggage to Your Destination. A copy of the delivery invoice and verification of the delay or misdirection by the Common Carrier must be submitted with the claim.
You must be a ticketed passenger on a Common Carrier. All claims must be verified by the Common Carrier who must certify the delay or misdirection and receipts for the purchase or replacement of necessary personal effects must accompany any claim.

Thankfully, we did not need to use any of the coverage but felt secure in the knowledge that any problems would be covered should we need it. Thank you.

The purchase was easy through insuremytrip.com. The response from AXA was fast and provided the necessary travel forms.
No claim, fortunately, so I cannot review that aspect of the company.

Received my check to settle my claim. I am being paid in full for my out-of-pocket medical costs with no deductible as the policy states. Great policy. AXA was quick to process claim and was in communication with us.
