This was the first time that my wife and I purchased travel insurance. Our Japan excursion was a major event with a sizable financial investment and we wished to have adequate coverage in case of an unforeseen trip cancellation. Obtaining the policy was very easy. I thankfully didn't need to file a claim, and since that's where the rubber meets the road, I can't evaluate the claims process. One thing I couldn't easily find was a policy where you could pick and choose the benefits. For example, my health insurance covers medical expenses outside of the country, and I didn't want to pay for additional coverage that I wouldn't need. But I didn't see policies that provided that option.
