In November of 2019, I purchased an entire plan to protect and safeguard my investment and safety; Interruption, Cancellation and Cancel For Any Reason. While in Iceland during March 2020, Covid 19 interrupted our once in a lifetime vacation. Our flight was cancelled, we had to purchase more tickets and we were required to fly into a designated quarantine airport and then ordered by the CDC and DHS to quarantine at home, which we did. The CDC website states a quarantine will take place at home. The DHS (Department of Homeland Security) website states that all US passenger returning from Iceland will be quarantined. The John Hancock policy (managed by Seven Corners in Indiana) states in section (n) states: “If You and/or Your Traveling Companion are hijacked, “quarantined”, required to serve on a jury, subpoenaed, required to appear as a witness in a legal action, provided You or Your Traveling Companion are not a party to the legal action or appearing as a law enforcement officer; the victim of felonious assault; having Your principal place of residence made inaccessible and uninhabitable by a Natural Disaster; or burglary or vandalism of Your principal place of residence “within 10 days of departure”, they would pay for a Trip Interruption claim. The policy only says to be quarantined and we were quarantined within 10 days of our departure. For some reason, Seven Corners Claims Adjusters have turned a blind eye and denied my claim twice. They manufactured phrases to persuade me to accept the denial. I recently made a 3rd appeal and filed a Civil Remedy complaint against the company for Bad Faith and deliberately delaying my claims for over 3 months. If I can travel again, I will never purchase a policy from John Hancock again. John Hancock/Seven Corners should be ashamed of how they treat customers the way that they have during this unprecedented Pandemic. Please keep in mind that insurance companies like John Hancock know that most people will give up on a denial, that’s why they’re multibillion-dollar companies. If you have the time, do not give up and fight for what’s just.

Unfortunate that age impacts cost. I understand but still irritating.

Trip insurance is part of every travel budget my wife and I put together, and we travel quite a bit. As we know people who have horror stories of extreme medical needs when traveling overseas we buy the maximum coverage available, and the policies from John Hancock have given us complete piece of mind. Rarely do we never need to use it, but for the couple of occasions when we did the coverage far exceeded the seemingly high up front cost of buying it in the first place. We wouldn't travel these days without it.

My husband became ill while on our trip. This policy covered the hospital bill that our US insurance didn't cover. It also covered the excursions we could not take, the cost of taxi to the hospital and back , and even covered our portion of a rental car that we did not get to use. These were all the things we had asked for reimbursement. Professional, prompt. I would purchase a plan from them again. It did take 6 months to get everything settled, so keep that in mind--we had traveled internationally. A big slow down was actually our regular insurance company--I had to submit info that showed how much my personal medical insurance company covered before John Hancock would pursue the claim.

Note: It would be a good idea to print off the forms you might need and take them with you. That way the forms can be completed by the doctor while you are still at the hospital. I did not do that, and had to get the ER doc to write a letter instead. John Hancock DID accept the letter and worked with us, hassle free.

Fortunately I had no need to file a claim, but it was comforting to know the coverage was available had I needed it.

We had the same plan for a previous trip and needed to file a claim. They were unbelievably pleasant and easy to work with.

I was unaware that I should have purchased the insurance within so many days of the travel purchases to get all the coverage we needed. Did not know how to do this as the tour purchase dates were not at the same time as the airfare purchases for the 4 individuals. There were 2 sets of tours purchased on different days, and 2 sets of airfares on different days.

Thank you for your feedback on the policy. You can purchase most policies up until the day before departure. However, the best time to purchase travel insurance is right after you put money down towards your trip. Some policies include time sensitive benefits which are but not limited to pre-existing condition waiver, financial default, Cancel For Any Reason and Cancel For Work Reasons. Most plans require that you purchase a policy within 10 - 30 days of your initial trip payment, and insure all prepaid non refundable trip costs to receive these time sensitive benefits.

You can always purchase insurance for cost of the trip that is known, within the required time frame, and then call us to amend your policy when you make the subsequent trip payments. To keep the time sensitive benefits in tact, please be sure to call us within the time frame listed on the policy to add-on the additional travel arrangements.
