In business since 1926, Nationwide focuses on providing the best possible service for its customers. Nationwide travel insurance plans offer a range of innovative benefits for a variety of travel needs.
We made a claim because our flight going home after our cruise out of Ft Lauderdale was cancelled due to a snow storm, and ended up having to stay the night. We sent in our claim and did not hear from the insurance company for a month. We contacted the company and resubmitted our claim. Again no response. Finally on our third try they responded that they are processing our claim, this after 3 months. The company does not communicate at all, it is like a big black hole. We received our claim finally and it did not cover the items they claim they cover. Also, they don't explain why our costs were not covered just sent a check and that is that. I would have been better off not purchasing the insurance. It was not worth my time to purchase and was not worth the time to send in the claim. Beware, it does not cover much of anything. When you read it it appears to, but it does not. I definitely do not recommend this insurance, unless you feel you want to make a charitable donation to Nationwide! Save your money.

Thank you for submitting your comments to assist your fellow travelers. We are very sorry to hear that you were not satisfied with your Nationwide claim experience.
Upon receiving your review, we immediately assigned an InsureMyTrip "Anytime Advocate" who contacted the Nationwide. According to their records, you filed your claim on 03/27/2018. On behalf of Nationwide, you were later contacted by Co-ordinated Benefit Plans, LLC with a voice mail on 04/18/2018 asking for additional information, by email on 04/24/2018, and again on 05/8/2018 by email advising that your payment was being processed. You have now received your check.
Coverage would have been reimbursed under Trip Delay up to 100 USD per day/500 USD maximum per person:
"The Company will reimburse You for Covered Expenses on a one-time basis, up to the Maximum Benefit shown on the Confirmation of Coverage, if You are delayed, while coverage is in effect, en route to or from the Trip for six (6) or more
hours due to a defined Hazard.
Covered Expenses:
(a) Any Additional Expenses incurred;
(b) A one-way Economy Fare to return You to Your originally scheduled return destination."
If you do have further questions concerning your claim, please call Customer Care at (800) 487-4722.
We were not contacted at all by Nationwide, not by phone, not by email. We submitted all the documentation 3 times with no response until the 3rd submittal, then the response that our claim was being processed, that was the only communication. The insurance is unresponsive and a waste of money.
LOng and painful claims process. When you call to check on the status, someone looks at a computer screen and reads what is there. You are never able to speak or e-mail directly to a claims adjuster. Often, I would be the one suggesting the next follow-up step,

Would've liked a cancel for any reason option. My family member was very sick but because they weren't traveling with us I wouldn't have been covered if I needed to remain home to help care for them.

Thank you very much for submitting your review. However, the number one covered reason for Trip Cancellation is "Sickness, Accidental Injury or death of You, a Traveling Companion or Family Member; which results in medically imposed restrictions as certified by a Physician at the time of loss preventing your participation in the Trip. A Physician must advise cancellation of the Trip on or before the Scheduled Departure Date..." Your family member does not need to be traveling with you. Of course, the reason to cancel must be unforeseen so there would have been no coverage if the family member was already sick on the date that you purchased the plan. In the case of an individual that is already ill, you would have needed to purchase a policy that included the "Cancel for Any Reason" benefit.
We are available weekdays 7:00 AM to midnight ET and weekends 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM ET if you have any questions.
Since I had no occasion to use the plan, gratefully, I am not really in a position to respond to the questions.
I can say my choice of coverage I would hope was what was needed if the occasion arise it I can also say from comparison with friends co erase, had I looked further I could have lesser coverage at a lesser rate.

I filed a claim with the insurance after our cruise missed two ports due to a cyclone. Hang on to the paperwork the ship gives you that shows they have to deviate from the original cruise plan. We received $200 each for missing the ports. I would use this insurance again for our next cruise.

Didn’t have to use this plan whatsoever, so the fact that it was a very affordable price for our peace of mind was absolutely worth it. We will be purchasing from this company for every trip here on out! In the event something did happen, this plan seems to provide excellent coverage. Thank you! Purchasing again for a December trip already.
