So my policy covered lost items in my case, or so I thought. I explained the situation to Nationwide via telephone and the rep was confident I would be reimbursed, so she sent a claim form. I provided all documentation and original receipts, including my new purchase receipt to replace the lost item. After filing a claim with Nationwide, I got the following response for a pair of $30.50 fins that were lost. Nationwide's response was:
"The policy purchased specifically excludes coverage for 'mysterious disappearance' and 'imprudent action or omission."
Why have a policy that claims to cover "lost" items when EVERY response to a lost item logically could fall under "mysterious disappearance" or "imprudent action or omission." (My item was left behind while waiting for a taxi at the beach- the taxi was late, we were on the other side of the island, needing to get back to a cruise ship).
I contacted InsureMyTrip after my denial. I was told a representative would telephone me the next business day. After waiting almost two weeks and not hearing back I posted the review.
A Senior Representative from InsureMyTrip did call quickly after I submitted my review. He was sincerely apologetic since no one followed and he contacted Nationwide immediately and went to bat for me in this case. Despite his efforts, Nationwide held firm and gave some excuses/reasons that did not fit the claim I am told- I should have filed with other companies first, but I did not lose the item in their property.

However, InsureMyTrip emailed and told me they are going to cover the cost of the fins which they did not have to do!

I've booked/recommended many other people/couples through InsureMyTrip and they have always been professional AND competent- in dealing with them from booking insurance, asking questions after booking, or having to inquire about claims. That is a rarity these days. Thank you.

Side notes: I could have called back to follow up myself but I am dealing back and forth with a few other companies (unrelated) for myself and other people and just got tired of it all, so I submitted a review first. My ratings for the plan are based on the claim denial. I would advise to call them and speak to the actual claims person if you have any questions prior to booking your insurance. Also, consult the list of exclusions for lost/stolen items. Thank you

Found out later that the travel company offers a plan that is based on trip cost alone and does not consider age of travelers.

Was a great feeling to know I was protected both before and during our cruise. Have purchased another plan for an upcoming cruise.

I seldom have needed to insure a trip, but with this trip costing in excess of $15K I felt it prudent. That being said, I really have no experience of what such protection should cost. It added another significant cost to an already expensive trip. Was it a fair price? I do not really have the experience to truly state yea or nay. In comparison with other such travel protection plans I got more for my money than it appeared I could get elsewhere. I did not have any incidents that made the coverage necessary, but I was glad to have it.

AIG Travel Travel Guard Gold
I was surprised how long the trip interruption needed to be for me to qualify for a flight reimbursement and will keep that in mind when buying plans in the future.

Thank you for your comment. Although there are hour requirements in many plans for covered reasons to cancel or interrupt your trip, the AIG Travel Guard Gold plan is actually one of the more broader plans without the 12, 24 or 48 hour requirements for inclement weather or mechanical breakdown. Perhaps you are actually referencing Travel Delay which does require a delay of at least 5 consecutive hours in order to have a covered reason for travel delay.

We did email you when we originally received this review hoping for additional information. You may still wish to consider filing a claim. Please contact AIG Travel Guard's claims department should you change your mind about filing a claim.

It was reassuring to know that we had coverage, particularly when one of us became ill in rural New Zealand. Our claim was handled efficiently and the staff were very courteous in answering our questions related to the process.

GeoBlue Voyager Choice
When I left, I thought EVERYTHING was covered that I needed to have covered. I borrowed my daughter's expensive suitcase and the only thing that went wrong was her suitcase
was damaged.
When I called to have it taken care of, I was told that it wasn't covered. It made me wonder what else wasn't covered?
I don't trust that the rest of my insurance was really covered.

Thank you for using InsureMyTrip. The following reply has been issued by GeoBlue:

"Thank you for your feedback. We apologize for any inconvenience that you may have experienced. The plan that you purchased is a travel medical plan designed to cover you for sickness or injury while you are abroad. Even though the plan focuses on medical, it does have small amounts of coverage for re-issuing lost passports, re-issuing lost airline tickets and replacing a lost piece of luggage ($100 per incident). Unfortunately, the benefits of your plan do not include coverage due to baggage damage. We strive to provide a seamless service to our valued customers and again appreciate your feedback."

Most Single-Trip Medical plans do not cover damaged luggage. The best way to cover lost, stolen, or damaged luggage is by purchasing a Comprehensive travel insurance plan. Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns. InsureMyTrip representatives are available 7 days a week by calling 800-487-4722.

I picked the coverage that I would most need and the deductibles I wanted. The cost of this insurance was very reasonable and did not have to purchase insurance that I know I would not need. Fortunately there was no need for is to use the insurance but it is essential to have especially the medical. You never know what can happen. I would purchase this again.
