I have bought the Travelex plan about 20 times in 2021. The price was right for the coverage. HOWEVER, in 2022 there is a 21 day advance purchase restriction and I rarely know my trip details 21 days in advance. I have been buying other plans in 2022 when Travelex is not available.

    Based on current travel trends Travelex Insurance Services, Inc. “Travelex” and our underwriting partner Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance Company “BHSIC” have reduced the number of days policies must be purchased prior to departure from 21 days to 14 days.

    Effective March 4, 2022, the 14-day purchase requirement applies to new enrollments for the Travel Basic and Travel Select plans.


    For those customers looking for travel protection and are departing within 14 days, the Travelex Flight Insure and Flight Insure Plus are plan options offering simple flight protection and some post departure coverage for a reasonable cost. The 14-day purchase requirement will not apply to the Travelex Flight Insure or Flight Insure Plus plans.

    Thank you again, we appreciate your past business and hope the less restrictive 14-day purchase requirement will provide more travel protection options for your trips."

Generali Global Assistance Standard
My big problem with the Plan was that it was unclear what coverage I had under the plan. As a senior citizen on medicare and medigap, with very good insurance in the U.S., I wanted to be well covered for serious heath problems arising overseas. For example, what if I had a heart attack or a stroke in France? I think I paid a lot of money, but I really felt the only way I would understand the quality of coverage I had was if I became ill. I feel that Generali should be able to clearly communicate in a much better way the coverage the customer is entitled to.

Fortunately we did not need to use our plan. Only purchased the part in case of illness or quarantine as our trip itself was covered by the tour company. Was glad to find a plan that actually HAD quarantine coverage & that it could be purchased separately.

Global Underwriters Diplomat International
We purchased the Global Underwriters Diplomat International plan for our recent 17 day trip. Though we did not use it, it gave us comfort in knowing it was available. My husband did have a fall where he bumped his head, but it was a minor incident and did not require further treatment, but it could have. He and we were very fortunate it did not escalate.
