I purchased this policy at the last minute after neither I nor InsureMyTrip could get a response from the vendor of an initial policy for over two weeks, that had to be modified due to coronavirus concerns. I ended up buying this backup emergency evacuation plan on March 6, the date of our revised itinerary/departure because "it was too late to duplicate the original plan." InsureMyTrip and Tokio Marine provided reassurance for a major catastrophic event, which I appreciated under the circumstances.

Generali Global Assistance Preferred
I purchased a plan on January 29th, but after the initial coronavirus outbreak at the end of February, and prior to any quarantines in Italy, we rebooked our planned trip to go to a destination outside of Europe. Every hotel and the airlines provided immediate support - but I could not get in contact with Generali for over two weeks. I tried phone calls (where I was told there would be call backs within 3 hours) and emails (with no responses). Even InsureMyTrip could not get a response from Generali (on at least 5 different attempts through our March 6 departure). I ended up buying a backup emergency evacuation plan from another vendor on March 6 because "it was too late to duplicate the original plan with another vendor because of the timing of our new departure." I finally heard from Generali with a revision confirmation letter on March 9 "confirming our policy" with no evidence of the actual destination. Because of this experience, I feel it necessary to avoid Generali for all intents and purposes in the future.

I purchased the insurance just in case and we were in Los Angeles when travel things started getting shut down. Although I made it home right on time, I felt good knowing I had purchased the insurance! It just helps relieve the stress!
