Comprehensive plans offer the most benefits, including Trip Cancellation and Trip Interruption. These plans provide the best protection for the investment you have made in your trip.
Unfortunately this is the time of our lives that we "need" trip insurance....just in case. So in a way it is hard to evaluate something that one really didn't use...which is a minus as well as a plus! That is why I chose not to give it 5 stars...I do wish we didn't have to pay the amount we do...but I understand that the probabilities may dictate a majority of the cost.

Once purchased, travel insurance is something I tend to forget about until needed. So far, another trip without cause to use insurance. I'm okay with that. Good travels everyone!

I selected the Nationwide Mutual plan to cover our 15 day cruise to Hawaii after comparing it with several other plans. Fortunately we didn't need to file a claim for anything.

My husband is disabled and we traveled with a CNA employed through an agency. During the trip I became acutely and seriously ill. The CNA needed to care for both of us from then on. Travelex wouldn't cover the cost of her services for me because she was a "traveling companion." My illness caused an extra day's stay, an ER visit, and changes in transfers. All these were covered. The only available flight home was in first class which turned out to be a medical necessity as I needed to constantly recharge a medical device. Travelex wouldn't cover that cost because I had not contacted their doctor. Had the summary of coverage spelled out that their doctor had to be contacted to approve flying first, it would have been done. This requirement is in the fine print of the policy, according to the adjuster under the heading " Emergency Medical Evacuation." As a retired physician I see Emergency Medical Evacuation as needing a helicopter to get me out of the Amazon before my appendix bursts.

Thank you for your feedback on the policy. We hope that fellow customers will find your review and our response to be educational and informative.
We are sorry to learn of the illness that you suffered during your trip. Unfortunately, there are no travel insurance policies that will cover the costs of services provided by a CNA that you are traveling with.
Your travel insurance provider, Travelex, responded with the following:
"Thank you for taking the time to post about your experience on InsureMyTrip.com
We have contacted the Claim Administrator, on your behalf, and we are happy to hear that you were eligible and reimbursed for the Trip Interruption, Trip Delay, and Medical Expenses, that you incurred while on your trip.
It is important to remember that insurance is highly regulated, and all claims are determined based on the documentation submitted in relation to the policy that was purchased. The policy details were sent to you on February 14, 2019 at 2:50 pm when the policy was purchased.
On page 5 of the policy details there is an explanation related to Trip Interruption, which states;
… the benefit payable … will not exceed the cost of economy airfare or the same class as the Insured’s original ticket, less any refunds paid or payable, by the most direct route. (emphasis added)
On page 7 under the Medical Expense Benefit, the policy details outline the below;
The Company will reimburse You for Medically Necessary covered expenses incurred to treat such Injury or Sickness during the course of the Trip provided the initial documented treatment was received from a Physician during the Trip.
Medically Necessary in the policy is, additionally, defined as a treatment, service, or supply that is ordered by a Physician.
That being said, the Claim Administrator would be happy to re-review your claim, if you have additional documentation that supports first class airfare was medically necessary and ordered by a Physician during your trip. They can be reached by phone at 1-855-205-6054, Monday – Friday, 7:00am – 7:00pm CST.
