Berkshire Hathaway Travel Protection ExactCare
The only negative is the cost. I reluctantly paid it, because I trust this “brand” more than others, but don’t understand why it is so much more expensive, for roughly the same coverage.

    The premium for Comprehensive Plans is calculated based on your trip cost, age of traveler and length of trip. Insurers must file their rates with each state's insurance department who determine that those rates are fair and adequate to meet the coverage terms provided in their policies. These rates may also vary significantly from company to company depending on the insurer's target market.

    Berkshire Hathaway works very hard to provide the high level of service that gives them brand recognition to their customer base. However, you may wish to discuss other options for your future trips, so please remember that you may call Customer Care at (800) 487-4722 weekdays from 7:00 AM to midnight ET and weekends from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM ET.

      Thank you for your explanation of cost factors. I did already understand them, but perhaps I was "over purchasing" (thinking I needed more coverage than I actually did), which brought up the cost.

C&F Travel Insured International Worldwide Trip Protector
We had a claim for an unused hotel room due to an airline's change of schedule. We didn't have exactly the documentation that Travel Insured requested, but did have reasonable evidence. They could have been picky, but were not, and quickly paid the claim without argument - 3 weeks from claim filed to check received.

AXA Assistance USA Gold
I filed a claim and was told it would take 30 days. After 30 days I called to ask the status, and was told all agents were not available and that I would receive a call back in 1 hour. About 4 hours later I received a message that they had called. I called back the next day, and was told that they were working on it. The following day, I received 3 emails. The first was totally illiterate with more misspellings than correct. The second recalled the first, and the third was a repeat of the first. I again called in and was told my claim was incomplete. I was then told it would be escalated to management and that I would hear soon. I asked what that time frame was and was told a "minimum" of two days. I asked what the maximum was and was not given an answer. Amount of the claim is minimal, less than 4% of the total for trip interruption. All of the important things are not even covered, since there are "no receipts" such as frequent flyer mile loss, downgrading to coach from first class, etc. Since their was no outlay, there are no receipts and therefore not covered. Not at all satisfied, would never use them again, and will tell everyone I know.

The claims administrator is required to adjudicate claims based on the terms and conditions of the policy and with any travel insurance policy you would be required to provide proof of loss. Receipts and documentation are required to support a claim.

Global Alert! Preferred
Fortunately, I did not have to file a claim with Global Alert!, however, I called Global Alert because one of my connecting flights (a short one to NY) was cancelled at the last minute. Instead of helping me get another flight, the person who answered said he didn't know how to do that and offered to send me a claim form instead. I told him that I wanted to get a flight, not a claim form and would get back if I needed a claim form. I managed to use other resources to fix the issue, but was disappointed that the insurance company had no one to help me.

I I felt I had chosen the best insurance and had all my questions answered about my coverage as I added things that needed to be insured. I asked many questions and always received quick, helpful responses. We have been on many cruises and learned through the course of the trip of people falling, having a heart attack and being evacuated and on this lasted trip, an injury needing blood donors so having this insurance hopefully would have made an emergency medical problem less costly as well as covering g any one of the things go wrong.
