HTH Worldwide Trip Protector Preferred
Unfortunately, while I was in Cuba, I got sick. I reached out for support and it was pretty lackluster. The representative mentioned there are two doctors but he wasn’t sure what their specialty was or if they were taking patients. I very much felt like I was stuck in Cuba with no support.

Since being home, I’ve attempted to contact the claims department twice by phone and once by email and still haven’t heard anything.

GoReady Insurance Cruise
I finally decided to review a plan I purchased because we had to use it and GoReady came through for us. On the way back from our Caribbean cruise, our flight home to NYC was severely delayed due to bad weather and we filed a claim for trip interruption. We sat on the tarmac for 6+ hours. We got support over email the following day and were reimbursed promptly after providing all documentation (without having to follow up multiple times!) for the extra expenses we wouldn't have had to pay had our trip gone smoothly. Specifically, we were reimbursed for additional Uber costs to get home and incremental fees we owed to our dog sitter for watching and feeding our dogs past the designated pickup time. Had we needed to stay in a hotel or order food during the delay, we would have also been reimbursed as well, but we wanted to get home faster and the restaurants in our airport were already closed by the time we arrived home. Overall, we got back everything we expected, so we're satisfied! We're going on a cruise to Alaska now and plan to purchase this policy again.

When you buy insurance and don't use it, don't have to file a claim, you have no way of knowing if it was any good or not. However, I am glad I didn't need to file a claim! My comparisons of plans and prices led me to this company, so I guess I stand by that decision. Insuremytrip.com was easy to use, and I even got to talk to a human to answer some questions!

Travel insurance is a strange product in that you have to have it but hope you don't have to use it. We are glad that our trip took place without needing to call on it. As far as the buying experience goes, that was all very smooth.

C&F Travel Insured International Worldwide Trip Protector
I purchased the travel insurance for trip to Hilton Head Island where we booked an AirBNB. Upon arrival, our rental was dirty with dead bugs and roaches throughtout the home. The bed linens were dirty. Because of this we weren't able to check in to the place until the next day because the company couldn't get anyone out until then to clean the place. We had to spend $250 at a hotel for that night. Our travel insurance contained trip delay, travel inconvenience, and interruption. You guessed it, when I filed the claim for the cost of the hotel, it was denied. DO NOT COUNT ON THIS COMPANY PAYING ANYTHING. I put these groups in the same categories as home warranties.

C&F Travel Insured International Worldwide Trip Protector
Our luggage for 8 people insured under a policy with Travel Insured was delayed for multiple days in Italy. On day three of wearing the same clothes, we went to a clothing store in Italy and bought the basics to keep us going. The total claim amount for 8 people was less the $400. We submitted the delayed luggage form, the detailed claim form, pictures of the baggage finally arriving, and a credit card receipt from the store in Italy. We proved, without a reasonable doubt, that the claim was legitimate, but the claim was denied because we failed to keep the itemized receipt from the clothing store in Italy. I’m not sure what Travel Insured thinks we bought at “Oviesse Campi Bisenzio” in Florence other than clothing, but apparently the “Integrity” value listed in their corporate values is a bit misleading (“We always do the right thing!”). Just be cautious as when I called ahead of the trip to learn more about the policy, they made the claim process sound so simple and straightforward, but unfortunately it was anything but that. Very disappointing.

Nationwide Mutual Insurance Essential
The only frustration was when we thought we had to submit a claim for lost luggage and was directed to another website. When attempting to input the dollar amount of each item lost, you were unable to just type in the amount. Instead, I had to sit at the computer and repeatedly tap and hold down the key because the dollar amount would only register ONE PENNY at a time. This is ridiculous, time consuming and unnecessary in this day and age of technology. Other than that it was okay.

Berkshire Hathaway Travel Protection ExactCare
This is the 6th Time I have purchased a Berkshire Hathaway Travel Protection ExactCare policy for international travel. The coverage stated is good.
I have never had a claim or needed travel assistance, so I cannot comment on customer service for claims or travel support.
The coverage for Medical Evacuation is important to me.
One type of coverage that I want, but cannot get, is losses from strikes.
Travel Protection Policies do NOT cover strikes. I have been stuck in a city from which I had planned to depart, but a sudden unplanned strike of rail and air options made those travel modes unavailable. Others in that city learned of the unplanned strike before me. All rental vehicles were rented, so I was stuck. Fortunately, I was able to return to my hotel for the period of that strike (due to holding their highest level in their frequent stayer program). However, I did lose several days of holiday travel and had to eliminate visits to 3 cities.
