I realized a conundrum that this and probably all travel insurance poses. I fell a week before I was to depart but neither my doctor nor any around the rural area in which I live had openings. I was able to get into an acupuncturist, physical therapist and masseuse, but none of them could replace a doctor's diagnosis. Fortunately, they all helped me enough that I could go on my vacation, but if I wasn't able to, the insurance would not have worked for me as you have to have an MD diagnosis you on the spot.

Nationwide Mutual Insurance Universal Cruise
FIrst time I had to use my travel insurance I had two canceled flights and had to stay overnight. I used this insurance to cover part of my costs. Air Canada refused to cover my entire hotel cost after having to stay overnight. It was easy to submit a claim. Not a long wait and I received an email for additional documentation (just my original boarding passes). Wasn't a long wait after that, I received a check for the amount I requested.

If you take nothing else away from this review, please know that you DO NOT want to purchase travel insurance from this particular company. I had a trip planned in Spring 2022 which was canceled by the trip organizer. I ended up getting most of my money back from the organizer, except for my flight + one night hotel stay. Therefore, my insurance claim was only for this smaller portion...the flight + one night hotel. It took over 8 months to get resolved, and it was only because I was persistent. I was told they were backlogged so I was respectful and gave them plenty of time to respond to me (ie, 4-6 weeks at a time). There was no follow-up on their end, I know they just wanted to ignore the claim and hope it goes away. They were so disorganized, asking me for the same documents over and over. I called in twice and my call was "escalated" both times. Escalated is a joke, nothing different happened. I was also asked verbally about the same information that I provided via email numerous times. Finally, I asked them for my money back...that's when they decided to take my claim seriously, I guess. I would NOT recommend this company unless you want to add over 8 months of stress and hassle to your life. Looks elsewhere.

This policy covered most of the items I was interested in but not all. If the motorcycle I requested to rent (in order to fit me and thereby enable me to safely ride it) was not available when I got there this policy would NOT have covered me for the trip and tour expenses. The tours have you sign a waiver and trip insurance doesn't cover you if they can't deliver what they promise. I had to take it on faith that the tour company would in fact provide the model I requested. There should be a way to buy trip insurance to cover this potential type of problem.

We needed file a claim, my husband had to go to medical while on our cruise. I called customer service before I did my online claim for clarification, they were very helpful, did my claim online attached documents and payment was sent to me. Very easy process.

We notified IMG immediately and then filed our claim promptly, a month after our trip was cancelled because of my mom's death. Three weeks after filing all documents requested, through their secure portal, I called and was told they had never received any documents. A week after I sent them a copy of the receipt confirm they had sent me when I filed, they "found" the documents. Another three week pause before they requested additional info that they had not initially asked for. Another three weeks (always with me needing to initiate the follow up) and they said the claim from a hotel was not valid because they did not charge me until we had cancelled (which their website, which I had sent a link to, clearly stated was how they would handle charges and cancellations). Another three weeks and they said that even though I had provided proof that our train ticket was non-cancellable / non-refundable, I needed to prove that I had cancelled it and did not get a credit. It was not until I wrote a letter stating that I no longer felt that I was being dealt with in good faith, that three plus months after I submitted our claims, and lots of hassle, they paid the claim. This has caused me to seriously question whether trip insurance is really worth what it costs when you factor in all the work and hassle to file a claim. P.S. If a company is always experiencing "heavier than usual call volumes" is it really heavier than usual?

I bought the trip insurance for myself and husband. My husband was not able to go on the trip due to an illness. I was not able to receive a refund for my husband.
