Berkshire Hathaway Travel Protection ExactCare Value
So thankful we did not have to file a claim. Being older travelers, we like to have insurance for peace of mind.
We will definitely use Berkshire Travel Protection again.

When I purchased this I was not aware that it didn't cover all reasons for cancellations...somewhere in the fine print I guess....so when I called about the coverage I was told "too bad, you're not covered...nothing we will do for your". So in the end not only did I end up having to cancel the trip for 4 people, absorb all the nonrefundable $$ but I wasted the insurance fee.

    Thank you for your feedback on the policy. We are sorry to learn that you had to cancel your trip. We understand that it is never pleasant to receive a denial for reimbursement under the Trip Cancellation coverage. However, your reason to cancel your trip must be specifically stated as a covered reason in the policy.

    Comprehensive plans are designed to cover as many risks as possible,
    but it appears that your trip was cancelled due to an event that would require a plan with Cancel for Any Reason.

    There are typically 3 conditions that must be met to purchase a Cancel For Any Reason Rider as follows: Purchase the policy within 10 - 21 days of First Trip Payment; Insure ALL prepaid and non-refundable travel expenses prior to departure; Trip arrangements must be canceled more than 48 hours prior to the departure date. If you meet all 3 of these conditions, most of the policies will reimburse you 75% of your trip costs, unless otherwise noted.

    The Cancel For Any Reason will show under its own box. Please make sure to click on the underlined phrase to view the requirements to qualify for this option. If you decide to buy this Rider, make sure to click on the box near the Cancel For Any Reason Rider and hit the 'buy' button at the top or bottom of the quote. I never had to use it, however, the cost and coverage was reasonable upon any emergency I might could have had. Thankful it was not needed and glad the cost was a minimum fee compared to the other plan that was available through the cruise ship.

We searched the cheapest travel insurance, covering the possible needs, in case of a claim. This is what we purchased. Lucky for us we did not have to make/process a claim during our travels (no one expects to) so there is less to review, only the insurance cost.

TripAssure Advantage Asset
The claim was for travel delay due to a cancelled flight on the return trip home. The flight was re-booked for the next day, so had to stay at a hotel and purchase 2 meals (dinner and next day lunch). I never communicated directly with anyone at TripAssure about my claim. When submitting the claim through their website, I selected the option to handle communication electronically (instead of snail mail), filled out the claim form, and attached copies of documentation about cancelled flight and receipts for hotel, meals and parking one extra day. Promptly received a confirmation email that documentation was received. After waiting one month, received another email to reimburse all expenses except the parking (not covered, although "local transportation" would be covered). The reimbursement came in the form of an e-check, linked to the email, to print on my own printer and deposit at my bank.

When the flight was cancelled, a call to "One Call" travel assistance from the airport turned out to be useless to ask if insurance would cover the expenses for travel delay. They did not know anything about the policy and started reading it over the phone. I did not ask "One Call" for any other assistance, so don't know if they would be helpful otherwise.
