AIG was excellent. We purchased this policy for a cruise, mainly to insure against the astronomical cost of a possible helicopter evacuation at sea. My wife had a medical emergency off the Mexican coast and we had to disembark in port for surgery. We are on Medicare, which covers nothing outside the U.S. Our Mutual of Omaha supplemental policy paid for 80 percent of the medical. The AIG policy covered all the rest. Both claims were handled very quickly. This was medical insurance only. The AIG policy did not cover any cost of returning to the U.S. or the cruise. However, this was a very affordable plan and satisfied our needs.

We did not need to file a claim, so the end result of the insurance plan could not be determined. It covered what we wanted, had fairly long period for coverage of preexisting medical problems, and the price was low, compared to others. Does that make it a good value? Who knows? Customer service answered the phone quickly, and made upward adjustments when we added costs as we got closer to travel date. So, no complaints, albeit with no claim experience.

I have used AIG twice now for trips and I will use them every time. Reasonable cost and they cover everything I’m looking for. My daughter used them and filed a claim and had a check in hand before we could think to see if it had been processed!

The plan was fairly reasonable but the price was high. I guess the insurance industry is just priced a little too high for my tastes!

Always vascilate on how much to spend on what is unlikely to happen but in the end I am not comfortable taking risk should an injury occur that would eradicate my “traveling budget†for the remainder of my life!
