Nationwide Mutual Insurance Essential
I purchased the Nationwide Essential plan for a Royal Caribbean cruise to the Caribbean at a reasonable price instead of the overpriced "Royal Caribbean CruiseCare". I was very happy that I chose this plan. I had to visit the ship doctor's office on the second day of the trip for an antibiotic. The total cost was ~$250. The claim process when I returned home was easy and they reimbursed me the full amount of the medical costs incurred onboard the cruise.

AIG Travel Travel Guard Gold
I thought it was kind of on the expensive side for what was a basic plan to cover travel 2 western European countries. I didn't really shop around but think I'll do a bit more research next time. No complaints as didn't need to use it but seemed high compared with what I've paid previously.

The proof of a plan is what happened when you need it, not just when you purchase it and don't have a claim. I feel this plan is too costly. It appeared to cover our major concerns for travel but again the proof is in what happens when you need it. I accidentally called the Claim phone number last year when I had a question and the representative had an attitude of being irritated to be bothered -- instead of wanting to help me, she wanted to make it difficult -- it was like I feared it would be and when she realised I had just called the wrong number with a general question, she still maintained her "you're getting little to no help from me" attitude. I hope she was the exception but how would anyone know?

TruTravel Insurance Premier
It was our first in 10 years vacation, which my husband and I decided to spend in Rome, Italy celebrating our 30 years of marriage. Unfortunately, it was spoiled by the fact that my luggage was lost, and we had to spend first 2 out of 7 days of our vacation trying to find an inexpensive place to buy something that I needed, not knowing when and even if I ever receive my luggage… My husband and I are very disappointed by the way how TruTravel Insurance handled this issue. It took me too much time and effort to get even part of my money back from the company, as I was inaccurately informed about our coverage. I felt that I had to provide so much additional information (besides receipts from the stores, boarding passes, papers from the Airport at Rome, etc. etc…) that I was doing the job that the Company should be doing for the money we paid upfront buying the policy.

    Although we are pleased to hear that you were reimbursed for your claim, it is very true that the travel insurance claims process is paper intensive, so we can understand your frustration. This applies to all insurance providers, not just TruTravel / Nationwide whose claims are handled by Co-ordinated Benefit Plans, LLC (CBP).

    Most travel insurance providers allow you to access your claim forms online. Since we cannot stress enough that it is very important to save your receipts and proof of expenses so that you can be accurately reimbursed, you may even wish to familiarize yourself with these documents prior to your departure.

    We encourage you and your fellow travelers to call Customer Care at InsureMyTrip 800-487-4722 if you wish our assistance in quoting and purchasing a policy. We would also like to remind you of our promise of "Unparalleled Customer Service" where our Anytime Advocates will support you if you have heard from the claims department within 30 days or you feel a claim has been unfairly denied.
