On our recent trip to Europe, we had a flight delay which caused us to miss our connecting flight from London to Rome. As a result, we were forced to book a later flight at a much higher cost than our previous booking. Upon our return home, we filed a claim with CSA for trip interruption. We were asked a few questions to clarify the basis for our claim, but after a brief time of less than 2 weeks from the time we submitted our claim, a check for full payment was received in full. I would highly recommend travel insurance with CSA and will most definitely buy insurance through them in the future when the need arises.

Since we were fortunate, and had no problems on our trip, it is hard to rate the service. We were traveling with our whole family (6 adults and 3 children under 7), so there were things (job problems, illnesses, etc.) that could have caused us to cancel. Given that the costs for non-refundable items were high, this insurance was worth the peasce of mind it gave us.

Luckily, we didn't need to use the plan, because nothing went wrong. But it was great to have the piece of mind knowing that if something had occurred, it would be covered. They covered our prepaid hotel cost up to the plan limit due to our delayed flight. They requested one more documents with their claim form than their rep told me to collect when I contacted them during the delay, but I had this. They confirmed receipt of our claim and said it would be processed within one month. I did not hear back until I contacted them after a month. I have now received a confirm that the claim will be paid within 10 - 15 business days.

I needed to speak to a representative to find a plan that satisfied my limited needs (cancellation for a specific list of reasons) and did not also cover a comprehensive list of other items for a much greater charge than I was willing to pay.

Beware the small print!
I thought that since I broke my leg and could not travel, I could claim for trip cancellation. Since I rebooked dates eight weeks later, this apparently was a "postponement" not a "cancellation". So if you can't travel for a covered reason, consider abandoning the trip even if the cost is greater. Note that this is not a specific criticism of HTH, as Insure My Trip advised that other insurers apply the same, in my opinion very dubious interpretation, of the term "cancellation".
If you are hiring a car, you may be covered for Collision Damage Waiver under your credit card - but beware their small print, as coverage is generally limited to rentals of up to 31 days. So if you rely on HTH, note that their CDW clause and exclusions was apparently written some time in the last century by someone who knew nothing about cars. Leaving aside the farcical examples such as Bradley and Yugo in the "exotic cars" exclusion, there are some potentially serious problems. All four-wheel drive vehicles are automatically excluded, which would mean most popular SUV's are not covered. Also Fiat and Citroen, who manufacture predominantly cheap cars you may well encounter at some European Hertz and Avis branches, are bizarrely classified as "exotic vehicles" and thus not covered. Naturally in the unlikely event that you did rent a true exotic that commenced production in this century, such as McLaren, Koenigsegg or Tesla, these would apparently be covered.
