Comprehensive plans offer the most benefits, including Trip Cancellation and Trip Interruption. These plans provide the best protection for the investment you have made in your trip.
A CLAIM WAS MADE FOR MEDICAL AND TRIP INTERRUPTION COVERAGE.
The claim was paid within 3 months so that was acceptable for a larger claim.
Sadly, the cost of my husband's modest hotel stay WAS NOT covered and excluded for reimbursement. This was a $1500 + loss for us sadly, even tho we had all paid invoices and back up information.
Interestingly, the INSURANCE CO mandated that I remain in Italy for an additional 5 days after discharged from a hospital stay- due to their requirement of medical clearance to fly home. So even tho they DEMANDED we remain in Italy in a hotel - THE hotel charges were NOT REIMBURSED.
This seems "out of sorts" as a family member requires lodging during a travel partner's illness. There lies the reason of my "3" rating, as a whole. It is unfortunate that we pay a significant premium for a travel policy - yet they fail to provide coverage for a "required" charge.

I, thankfully, had no reason to use the plan so I really am unable to tell you if it was good value for money. I will say that it was competitive price-wise. I transferred this plan from a trip that had been canceled and getting the policy transferred was relatively seamless.

We always get trip insurance when we travel internationally and this time I needed to see a doctor while on the trip. When we got home I submitted the claim online with copies of the receipts. After submitting the claim I read the information they sent and thought that I had missed the deadline (and some documentation) for filing that they set, so figured it would be declined, but I received a full reimbursement a week later.
Just a note: I requested that the reimbursement be deposited into my bank account, but the credit came through saying it was from a charity in Mexico! I called my bank and they tracked down that it was initiated by Cambridge Mercantile. I googled it and saw someone else had received a credit from them and it was a travel insurance claim. Mystery solved! Delighted that they paid my claim and so quickly!

Due to a cancellation of our transatlantic flight caused by a mechanical issue, we were delayed by 25 hours in getting to our destination, which caused us to miss the sailing of an expedition cruise by just 1 hour. Despite having trip interruption insurance and additional coverage for interruption for ANY reason, we found out the hard way that “any reason” doesn’t truly mean any reason.
Their interruption insurance doesn’t start until 72 hours after the initial travel date and doesn’t cover mechanical delays unless they exceed 48 hours. This makes the insurance pretty much useless when you’re trying to catch a cruise. How many cruises does someone catch where the ship leaves after 72 hours of starting travel? Of course, the insurance company is well aware of this and results in fewer claims being paid.
Had these limitations been prominently displayed, I would never have purchased this policy. Instead, they were buried in 1365 words of fine print, which required a thorough search to uncover.
As a result, the policy only paid $1,000 of my $19,000 claim. I’ve been using InsureMyTrip.com for decades without ever needing to make a claim due to a cancellation, but this experience has shown me that when you actually need the insurance, it may not be there for you.
This situation is a prime example of not being forthcoming with critical coverage details. According to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) guidelines, advertisements must be truthful and not misleading, including the fine print, which should not contradict the main message. The FTC’s Deception Policy Statement specifies that an ad is deceptive if it contains a statement—or omits information—that is likely to mislead consumers acting reasonably under the circumstances and that this information is material to their decision-making process. The lack of clear and conspicuous disclosures in the policy details is a violation of these guidelines, which require that important details not be hidden in fine print or made difficult to understand. Companies must back up their product claims with reliable evidence, and failing to do so can result in significant penalties. Our experience exemplifies the consequences of not being forthcoming with critical coverage details.
I hope this review helps others make more informed decisions and highlights the need for transparency in travel insurance policies.

Not sure how to review something that I didn’t have to use. I do feel your company policies are less expensive but then I feel the industry is gouging the traveling public. Travel insurance has become totally necessary so we just pay the price.

I purchased travel insurance through InsureMyTrip (policy was with WorldTrips - Atlas Journey). I highly recommend this policy as you will see in my review below, as we had a medical emergency and successfully filed a claim.
While traveling in Italy in late May of this year (2024), with my wife and two small children (under age 3), my wife fell and fractured her pelvis. We promptly went to a regional Sicilian hospital for diagnosis and treatment, where she was recommended 30 days bed rest with no movement off of her back.
I immediately called the number on the policy, which directed me through On Call International, the "Travel Risk Management & Emergency Assistance Solutions" coordinator contracted by World Trips.
Long story short:
It took ~48 hours for On Call International to:
- obtain medical records,
- review internally and meet with medical team,
- approve emergency medical evacuation with the insurer (World Trips),
- coordinate Air Ambulance (Reva Air),
- coordinate admittance to hospital near our home,
- and fully schedule the return itinerary
About a total of 4 days after initially contacting World Trips, we were on a plane home.
It's worth noting that we had $1,000,000 in "Medical Evacuation & Repatriation" coverage on this policy. If I had to guess, the air ambulance alone was 1/4 of that.
Additionally, they approved all of our trip interruption claims (approx $3,000 of non-refundable hotels, plane tickets, etc.)
The emergency management contractors I worked with in coordinating our repatriation (OnCallInternational, and the air ambulance company Reva Air) were excellent providers and advocated for us. I spent many hours on the phone coordinating everything, and they were always available. The repatriation was complicated by my wife's condition, and the fact that we had an 8 month old baby and 3 year old toddler, were located 3 hours from the airport, and numerous other factors.
World Trips honored the policy and provided us with all of the coverage described in the policy documents. Additionally, they quickly processed our trip interruption claims (that took 4-6 weeks to fully process)
Always buy travel insurance! It's cheap! Let me know if you have any questions.

I think we would have more details on the plan if we would have had to make a claim. All information provided was acceptable. We felt confident enough that we booked all rooms non-refundable and used the savings to insure our entire trip.
