The trip in general was uneventful. Until our return flight was rerouted for reasons of bad weather.
We lost our connection flight, and all subsequent bookings on later flights to our destination that day were cancelled for the same reason, leaving us stranded and away from home. It proved to be quite a hassle to find transportation that late in the day.
Unexpected expenses were incurred.
I filed a claim for the first time. I am glad I chose to buy travel insurance, just in case. But I always do.
I am glad I went with CSA. The process was involved, and it took a while, but the in the end, and after calling me back one last time to confirm the information, they sent a check for all the expenses incurred on that return lap of the trip.
I will have business with CSA again. It wasn't the first time I contracted CSA for travel insurance, but they have more than earned my business in the years to come. .... Just in case.

We were in Zimbabwe when the coup occurred November 15, 2017. When we learned of it and heard that US citizens should stay indoors, we decided along with our guide to leave Zim until we knew what was happening. We had paid for three nights stay in Hwange National Park and had one night there. We headed to Botswana and spent the next two days there until we felt that it was safe to travel back to Zim and on to Zambia to pick up our trip.

We lost two nights lodging in Zim and also the park fees. We had to pay for another visa back in to Zim so the costs were not insignificant. After returning home I downloaded the form for trip interruption added ALL of the paperwork and sent it off.

For the next four weeks we heard nothing. Not an email or any acknowledgement that CSA received the package we sent. Finally I called and was told that yes, they had received it and yes, it had a tracking number but the person handling the case was on vacation. Finally this week we received an email stating that they would reimburse us a partial amt of what we had claimed. It was not the most pleasant experience and I do not know if I would ever use this insurance company again. We travel a great deal and like to know that if something goes wrong that the insurance company has our backs. The policy was over $800.

However, you replied with a very nice email stating that you believed that there was little we could do on your behalf, so we have published your review as originally submitted.

I would have needed to file a trip delay claim because I ended up stranded in Antarctica for 3 extra days due to weather recently, but I had arranged my return flight several days after the end of my excursion and the hotel I had reserved worked with me to not charge me for the unused nights I had reserved so since I was smart in planning my trip the insurance simply provided peace of mind - I was happy to know I was covered in case there were issues and would definitely recommend John Hancock Insurance for any trips to unusual places, especially to Antarctica!

Nationwide Mutual Insurance Essential
Our flight home was delayed a day due to freezing fog so our plane was unable to land and was diverted back to PDX. Nationwide Insurance was very easy to deal with to be reimbursed for our night in a motel. The person I spoke with was very helpful and courteous and our claim was paid promptly. Thank you.

BUYER BEWARE!!
We have been purchasing trip insurance through InsureMyTrip and Nationwide for years. On Dec. 16, our flight was canceled meaning we could not reach our cruise destination of San Juan and had to meet the cruise a day later in St. Kitts. I felt sure our trip interruption portion of our policy would cover the cost of missing one day of a very expensive holiday cruise. Wow, was I wrong. When I called Nationwide, I was told unless the airport is completely shut down, the cancellation of a flight is not covered. I was told there was no need to file a claim as no payment would be made. I called InsureMyTrip to speak with someone about this. I was told, "Sorry you're not happy. Have a great day."

    The Nationwide Essential plan is a "named peril" policy which means that the peril (covered reason) must be specifically listed in the plan or there is no coverage. This particular plan includes the following coverage for Trip Interruption:
    "Weather that causes complete cessation of services of the Common Carrier for at least twenty-four (24) consecutive hours and prevents You from reaching Your destination."

    We do have other policies available on our site that have specific cruise benefits, such as Missed Connection.
