First time getting insurance for traveling over seas. My cousin is a travel agent and recommended this company and plan. I will continue to buy coverage from this company when traveling overseas.

I purchased a fairly basic plan for coverage on a trip to Morocco. I wound up having to cancel my entire trip, a week or two beforehand, as my daughter had some medical issues. Nationwide covered ALL my expenses -- tour company, airfare and hotels! The process was very straightforward -- I just provided the documentation they requested and, about a month later, received a check for the full amount, in the mail. Didn't even have to talk to anyone! I definitely expected more rigamarole and negotiation.
Overall, I'd highly recommend Nationwide for travel insurance!

It is hard to write a review when we didn't use your service. Yes, we bought the policy, but, thankfully, did not need to use it. If I ever have to file a claim I will write a review. But hearing from a friend, you are not easy to work with.

Most reviews are just people saying they felt secure knowing they had insurance, but never actually filed a claim so that’s not really a legitimate review in my opinion because you don’t have the experience of what happens when the company is held to fulfill its responsibility. I did file a claim so I can report on this with certainty. Overall, I was satisfied with the result. My only complaint is that they drug their feet quite a bit on processing the claim. After submitting the documents, including all of the receipts for everything, I didn’t hear from them for over a week. I emailed them and they said that it takes time to process the receipts. Then they said they needed me to submit more documentation including emails from hotels and my credit card statement showing the purchases, even though I had submitted receipts with my name and last four digits of my credit card number on them. I don’t know why they needed two different proof of purchases for the same purchases, especially since the cash purchases didn’t require anything other than a receipt. Seemed like a delay tactic or a beaurocratic move. After I went through the trouble of printing out my credit card statement and emails and scanning and uploading them. I didn’t hear back for over a week again so I finally had to contact them and ask what’s going on. They said to allow up to 15 business days (3 weeks) to review. This was a cut and dry claim due to the global IT outage. It should not have take so long to resolve in my opinion. They ended up approving everything except for the hotel stay that I missed due to the outage. They said that only travel expenses booked before I had left for my trip were covered and anything booked while on the trip was not and since I booked this hotel while on the trip it wasn’t covered. Seems sus to me but I accepted what they offered. They paid by check through the mail and cannot do payment with technology from this century such as PayPal or direct deposit. All told, I began the claim in August and was paid out in October. Due to the snails pace processing time, bureaucratic red tape and that I had to follow up with them just to get any information. I probably would not use this company again.

I gave this product only half a score because I never had to file a claim. I shopped around carefully and chose this product because it was affordable and seemed well-recommended. However, the true test is filing a claim. That's the only basis on which I can give a recommendation. If others want to use this product after careful shopping, I don't object and wouldn't say it's unwise. I'm glad I didn't have to file a claim and I hope you don't either.

Too strict not open to reasonable negotiation which tells me there's no individual circumstances evaluation. They act and perform like they're big fish and we're super small with little to no importance. There are better choices and will never patronize IMG again!
