Comprehensive plans offer the most benefits, including Trip Cancellation and Trip Interruption. These plans provide the best protection for the investment you have made in your trip.
Luckily I did not have to file a claim, although the trip did not go as planned.
However, the tour operator, Quark Expeditions, agreed to refund a pro-rated amount for 3 days of the expedition cost and and pay additional reimbursements for three days at $100 per person per day to cover meals expenses for the extra days we had to spend in Calgary waiting for embarkation.
Here is the letter they provided for anyone wanting to file a claim.

Re: Canada’s Remote Arctic aboard Ultramarine – August 19- August 30, 2023 – Trip Interruption
Dear Travel Insurance Provider,
This letter is to inform you of the Trip Interruption to the above voyage due to wildfire activity in Yellowknife which resulted in the cancellation of their charter flight from Calgary to Resolute. Guests remained at the joining hotel Calgary until their return home.
On August 20, 2023 passengers were scheduled to fly on Summit Air charter flights departing Calgary at 9:00AM & 10:00AM and arriving in Resolute Bay at 3:33PM and 5:18PM where they intended to embark Ultramarine. However, on August 18 we were advised by Summit Air flights had been cancelled as their aircraft and crew had been redirected to assist in the wildfire efforts.
With Summit Airlines unable to operate charter flights Resolute was no longer a viable embarkation point, which resulted the embarkation point of Ultramarine changing to Iqaluit. Guests remained in Calgary until August 22. Flights were scheduled with Canada Jet Lines to operate on August 22 departing Calgary at 11:45 AM and arriving in Iqaluit at 6:10PM. Upon arrival in Iqaluit guest embarked upon Ultramarine and continued their expedition.
As per our terms and conditions, no compensation has been provided to travelers for flights outside our program or other expenses incurred due to the interruption.
Should you have any questions regarding this voyage interruption please contact Quark Expeditions via [email protected] with “Canada’s Remote Arctic August 19 departure Trip Interruption”, in the subject line.
Very Sincerely,
The Quark Expeditions Client Experience Team

I did not make a claim so this rating only applies to the online application process and coverage which were both very good. This rating does not apply to the claims process

United lost my bag for 2 weeks. As I had to fly again for business during these 2 weeks, I had to purchase a new suitcase. When I called to staqrt a claim, I was informed that delayed baggage claims are only for outbound flights, not on return flights. I found that to be a disappointment and rather unrealistic with the flying community these days.

I called the company with a concern about a possible travel issue. Fortunately, I didn't need to file a claim, but I was impressed with the representative. He clearly explained the benefit available.

This insurance was a joke. We planned a month long trip to Peru. We had the worst luck and had two canceled flights trying to get there, hours in airports, changing flights, going to other airports. Needless to say we missed our first week and planned trek to Machu Picchu. Of course what we had pre-paid on this was non-refundable. I only filed a claim for this amount of the trip that we missed as I thought this is what insurance was for. They asked for documents upon documents which I worked to provide. I had to get letters from the airline, I sent in itemized receipts from our trek that clearly stated what we had paid and clearly said that it was non-refundable. They just continued to ask for more documents and letters. I am sorry, but a company in Peru is not going to take time to fill out a ridiculous amount of forms to help us get our money back for a trek we didn't make. I gave more than substantial information. So unless you have hours upon hours to hound people to get documents, don't expect to receive any money if something unexpected happens in your trip.
