Comprehensive plans offer the most benefits, including Trip Cancellation and Trip Interruption. These plans provide the best protection for the investment you have made in your trip.
My wife had a health issue that arose about a week before our trip. I called your claim office because I needed clarity about the coverage in case it was determined by our doctor that we would have to cancel the trip.
The person I spoke to could not give us clarity as to whether our claim would be honored. I don't think our request was unreasonable. If the doctor had told us that surgery was needed sooner rather than later or that my wife would not be healthy enough to make the trip, we would have had to cancel. I would have like clarity from your staff. Instead, all they would tell me was that a decision regarding coverage could not be made until after a claim was filed. I did not find this helpful.
Luckily, my wife's doctor told her that she could postpone the surgery until after we returned from the trip, so we didn't have to cancel. However, I hope you can empathize with our situation.

With all travel insurance products, the claims administrator is required to adjudicate claims based on the terms and conditions of the policy. Unfortunately, in no event can a claim be pre-determined, as you would be required to provide Proof of Loss to determine appropriate coverage.
The Generali Global Assistance Preferred plan has the following number one covered reason to cancel or interrupt your trip:
"The Sickness, Injury or death of you, your Family Member, your Traveling Companion or your Service Animal. The Sickness or Injury must first commence while your coverage is in effect under the Policy, must require the in-person treatment by a Physician, and must be so disabling in the written opinion of a Physician as to prevent you from taking your Trip (either because your condition prevents your travel, or because your Family Member, Traveling Companion or your Service Animal requires your care);"
This plan will exclude:
"Sickness or Injury during the 180-day period immediately prior to your
effective date for which you or your Traveling Companion:
(1) received, or received a recommendation for, a diagnostic test, examination, or medical treatment; or
(2) took or received a prescription for drugs or medicine.
Item 2 of this definition does not apply to a condition which is treated or controlled solely through the taking of prescription drugs or medicine and remains treated or controlled without any adjustment or change in the required prescription throughout the 180-day period before coverage
is effective under this Policy."
We are happy to hear that you were able to take your trip and we wish all the best for you and your wife. This review isn't for this specific purchase but rather in general for AIG Travelguard insurance. We have traveled extensively for about 20 years and have always purchased Travelguard insurance for our overseas and sometimes our domestic trips. We have had to completely cancel 2 trips over the years due to a family death and a serious family illness and had one trip extended due to an airline disruption. All three claims (the most recent was in 2018) were paid quickly and completely with no issues whatsoever from AIG TG. All staff that I spoke with for questions or assistance prior to filing the claims were helpful and knowledgeable. It is hard to know which insurance to pick unless you know someone who has had to file a claim - I definitely recommend this company based on my experiences so far.

Filed a claim online. A little confusing at 1st but figured it out. They paid promptly without hassle experienced with other carriers. Will use them in future.

Plan worked out ok. I thought it was a little over priced, but booking it worked out fine, didn't have to file a claim, so that's all I can speak about.

We came very close to having to cancel this trip. I was in treatment for a non-healing foot wound at a wound treatment center, which got worse on the preceding days. We decided to start the trip because we had assurance that if it did not improve by Key West, we could fly back home and not lose all the money we paid for the trip.
