In business since 1926, Nationwide focuses on providing the best possible service for its customers. Nationwide travel insurance plans offer a range of innovative benefits for a variety of travel needs.
I filed a claim with them when we had to cancel for medical reasons. That was weeks ago. Have not received confirmation that they received claim. There was a signed requirement for mail delivery and having not received a thing from USPS I assume it was delivered . There’s never anyone to answer my call. Leave message no response....very poor way to run a business.

Thank you for bringing this issue to the Company's attention. Nationwide has reviewed your claim and advised that they received your paperwork on 08/28/2018. You later called the Company on 09/26/2018 and was advised that the claim was under final review. Your claim was denied later that day and a denial e-mail letter was sent to you at your email on file.
According to your policy, "Pre-Existing Condition means an illness, disease, or other condition during the sixty (60) day period immediately prior to the Effective Date for which You, a Traveling Companion, a Family Member booked to travel with You: 1) exhibited symptoms that would have caused one to seek care or treatment; or 2) received or received a recommendation for a test, examination, or medical treatment; or 3) took or received a prescription for drugs or medicine. Item (3) of this definition does not apply to a condition that is treated or controlled solely through the taking of prescription drugs or medicine and remains treated or controlled without any adjustment or change in the required prescription throughout the sixty (60) day period before the Effective Date"
Unfortunately, you were not eligible for the waiver since you did not purchase the policy within 10 days of your Initial Trip Payment:
"The Pre-Existing Conditions exclusion is waived if You (a) enroll in this Certificate at the time You pay the deposit required for Your Trip (or within ten (10) days of the initial deposit); (b) purchase this Certificate for the full cost of Your Trip; and (c) are medically able to travel on the Effective Date.
Of course, it is never pleasant to hear that your claim was denied. Nationwide confirmed that you were sent the letter so you may want to check your spam/junk e-mail folder for the information.
The only drawback to this plan was that it took five weeks to process the claim. But the claim was processed fairly and easily. I'll buy this the next time.

Thank you for confirming that Nationwide processed your claim fairly and easily. Usually Nationwide takes less than 30 days to process a claim except during hurricane season. The Atlantic hurricane system ranges from Jun 1, 2018 – Nov 30, 2018 for storms originating in the Atlantic Ocean. In addition, the Pacific Ocean has also had a very busy year with the first tropical depression recorded on May 15th. When you add all the claims activity from the California fires, you will see a more lengthy claim process at this time of year.
Although I had no issues on this trip, I always buy travel insurance due to a situation that happened to me 15 years ago. As an insurance agent it is easier for me to review policies and I felt nationwide was the best choice for the value.

Fortunately, I didn't have to file a claim. This policy covered exactly what I wanted to cover at a reasonable price. The documents provided clear descriptions of the coverage and how to proceed if I needed to make a claim. Overall good value for money.

Much, much too expensive! Outrageous! Not easy to use and discourages use. My wife was seriously ill and hospitalized for 6 days just prior to the trip but filing a claim would have been substantially difficult and burdensome, so, she summoned up what strength she had and we went on the cruise. She was in pain, and uncomfortable throughout the trip and she did not get off the cruse ship until we reached our home port.

Thank you for your feedback on the policy and we are sorry to learn that your wife suffered an illness prior to your trip.
The policy that you purchased does cover the following if you had to cancel or interrupt your trip.
"(a) Sickness, Accidental Injury or death of You, a Traveling Companion, or Family Member which results in medically
imposed restrictions as certified by a Physician at the time of Loss preventing Your participation in the Trip. A Physician
must advise cancellation of the Trip on or before the Scheduled Departure Date;"
It would be standard procedure with any travel insurance policy that you would have to file a claim in order to be compensated for Trip Cancellation. We would be happy to speak with you further about your experience and/or provide any clarification of policy terms and conditions. Please let us know if you have any questions or need further assistance, we can be reached at 800-487-4722.
