I realize that the company is out to make money and does have to pay out claims. I just wish you could refund a portion of the premium if t is not used. It is a catch 22 because you do not want anything to happen to you while you're on vacation and the flip side is you to want make sure that expenses are covered if a problem arises.

The Trip Cancellation for Any Reason benefit requires that the trip be canceled 48 hours prior to the schedule departure date. That said, it’s possible that you may be eligible for reimbursement from canceling your trip if the reason for cancellation is a covered reason within the policy wording. I bought Nationwide Prime through "insuremytrip.com". Unfortunately I had an issue on my overseas trip. Very difficult to contact a "Nationwide" rep who knew about this obvious 3rd-party insurance. First words out of his mouth were "I don't think we cover you for that". That's never good to hear when you're in a foreign country. I suffered with the issue until I got back to the US and was covered by my employer's health plan. $20/day travel insurance is barely worth the 64 pages of fine print. Never again.
